Adopting a dog is\none of the most exciting things you can do in life. You are ready for the\nresponsibility of caring for another life and the furry fellow cannot wait to\nbe your life long companion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that is not\nalways the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some dogs suffer\nfrom pet anxiety when moving to new environments. And because they cannot use\nwords to express pain, they will show it through behavioral responses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But all hope is not\nlost. You can still soothe your furry friend by making sure he feels\ncomfortable in his new home like everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Maintain His Normal Routine <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dogs value routine\na lot. When you move to a new house, ensure you maintain the same activities\nthat your dog used to do in the former home. Continue taking him out for\nmorning and evening walks. This should help him explore the new environment and\nfeel more at ease living in it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you had a\nfitness routine for your dog, maintain it. Does your new home have a backyard?\nGreat, make time in between your crazy schedule, to train and exercise him. If\nyou moved into an apartment, find a public park where you can go for exercise\nand play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dogs adopted from shelters rarely have a routine set for them. You will have to come up with the daily activities you can do together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Keep All His Prized Toys <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Do not toss your\ndog\u2019s toys away. He will need them to console himself about this new move. If\nyou got him from a shelter, find out if he had any toys he loved to play with.\nThe same applies if you adopted him from a rescue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Find a pet-sitter<\/a>\nwho is good with pets. Another option is leaving your pooch in a pet daycare\ncenter. This will help the furry fellow bond with new people and end his social\nanxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are adopting\na puppy, it is the best time to teach him new tricks. Start training<\/a>\nhim on simple commands like sit, stay, come, or go. Train him good habits like\ndoing his business outside and not back at every new person he sees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
