If you keep the new kitty in a separate place, such as a spare bathroom, with its own box water and food, your cat will not feel defensive about his territory. Because he will still be in control, provided the door to the separate room is shut. This is called a safe room. I Foster, so go through this all the time with new cats. It makes all the difference.
