Pet rescue what to do* Post to Lost Pets on social media sites At meal time go outside with a container or jar with dry food and shake while calling the cat and put out smelling food like tuna but don’t leave out it will draw wildlife DO NOT PUT OUT LITTER BOX it will draw wildlife and if they use the box they will contaminate with parasites Go out at early morning or dusk walk the neighborhood with flashlight and the dry food container/jar. Also bring a collapsible carrier ( at pet stores & chewy.com) to carry your frightened kitty home safely. Shake the container and shine the flashlight into bushes, under decks, porches, up in trees, the light will reflect their eyes making it easy to find them. Take a worn tshirt and drag around property line and rub on trees and bushes then leave by door. Cats have a great sense of smell and this will help them identify their home If microchip make sure the information is up to date and ask the microchip company to send out notices. Make flyers to hand out to neighbors include picture, cats name, phone number, area lost and if you are offering reward. Do a grid* search and knock neighbors and businesses in the grid and leave flyers if people aren’t home Send flyers to vets offices in a 5-10 mile radius just in case someone brings the cat to a vets office. Call and send flyers to rescue, shelters and TNR groups. Send flyers to town police dept and animal control officers and also surrounding towns. Also make appointment with shelters to visit so you can look to see if your cat is there. Also contact TNR groups ask if you visit the feeding/shelter area to look for your cat. Post everywhere in town, on trees, bulletin boards and store windows. Ask delivery people (UPS, FedEx etc) to put up flyers at the depot. Contact pet recovery groups. *grid search -the location where your cat disappeared is the center of search. Draw on a scaled map a 3 miles circle. Search that area. Then draw another circle 6 miles from center search between the 3 & 6 mile grid. Keep increasing by 3 miles. Good luck
