How to find a cat Go out at dusk and dawn. These are the key times to find your kitty. Take a flashlight to see his eyes glowing under a bush, car, up a tree, on a fence , beside a house, a storm drain etc..Crack a window, garage door so he/she can smell you and his home. And as well, leave something of either hers or yours that she is usually around, like a toy or a blanket, etc., etc., for her to smell. Cats can smell for a very long distance if she is outside, that could help her find her way home. Another time they seem to come home is 2-3 in the morning. At least that’s what I have read . Best time to look still is dusk and dawn. Check Google on dusk and dawn times for your vicinity (here in Austin, Tx. ) or where ever you are in the world !!! KEY POINT Do Not Give Up Hope!!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️ 1. Go door-to-door with a photo and PHYSICALLY HAND EVERY single neighbor your phone number, so if they see your pet, they can quickly and conveniently call you. You never know they may have your baby inside keeping them safe. 2. Ask them to check their camera footage. 3. Put a big sign in your front yard with a picture of your pet. Someone may have found your baby and driving around to find its owners. This gets many eyes looking out for your baby. I got one of my cats back by doing this. 4. Put your dirty clothes outside for a scent they will recognize (not litter box). 5. Search at dark with a flashlight in hopes of seeing their glowing eyes. 6. Check all storm drains! Hope you find your baby soon! ( I copied this part of finding a kitty because I thought it was good info and a sweet message.) Author Shannon Wiseman Copied from another post . Good info I'm so sorry this sweet kitty is missing. Below is helpful info as well as a link to a super informative video on finding your lost cat. If your cat is used to being outside but usually stays close to the house and doesn’t wander then ..... If they wandered farther than they are used to and became lost/displaced...Those cats are almost always hiding nearby but may be spooked. Leave a door, garage or window open for them to re enter if possible. (This is at your own risk due to safety concerns). Tell all your neighbors and put up neon poster board lost cat signs. Put some of your dirty clothes outside so they can use them to smell their way home. Look in trees, on roofs, and under/in everything. Use a flashlight at night to look for eyes. Fear can make even the most tame cat act feral so some need to be trapped. It is not recommend to put their litter box or food outside because it can attract other cats and wildlife that might run off or your cat. Otherwise...Something may have happened to prevent them from coming home. Have your neighbors check all their garages and sheds in case he got locked inside. Put up the lost cat flyers in case someone took him in. ----------------------------------------OR-------------------------------Inside only cats are almost always hiding very close. Tell all your neighbors and put up neon poster board lost cat signs. Leave a window, garage or door open to your house if it’s safe to do so for them to reenter. (Keep in mind this is at your own risk due to safety concerns and other pets would need to be secured first.) It is very likely they will try to re-enter through the door they escaped from. Put some of your dirty clothes outside so they can use them to smell their way home. Physical searches in a 5 house radius (500 yards) of your house is one of the most important things you can do. Look in trees, on roofs, bushes, storm drains and under/in everything. This includes under and in parked cars as scared cats will climb inside their undercarriage. Use a flashlight late at night to look for eyes. Scared cats may still move around so you may need to check the same places multiple times. Fear can make even the most tame cat act feral so some need to be trapped. They probably won’t come to your call. It is also not uncommon for them to be missing for over a week before they come out of hiding. It is not recommended to put their litter box or food outside because it can attract other cats and wildlife that might run off or your cat. Watch this short video on how to help find your lost cat. https://www.facebook.com/FrontStreetAnimalShelter/videos/204603164050824/ Finding cats Other steps to take, if you haven't already: • Post to 24PetConnect and PawBoost • Post to local neighborhood Facebook groups • Post to NextDoor • Make large bright signs with a clear picture of the cat (as in the Lost Dog pic, but make sure to write LOST CAT) and put up all around the area the cat was last seen.
