Notify microchip company if your dog is chipped. Put out a feeding station with smelly foods. People use Royal Farms Chicken.
File a lost report with animal control local shelters. Include a photo of your missing pet when sending the form. Many animals have similar descriptions, so please include a photo of your missing pet when sending the form.
Maryland stray hold is only 72 hours, so it's important to visit quickly and often. Check online daily to see if you see if him/her is posted on all the shelters' website. If you see your pet's photo on the website, please contact them immediately!!!
Check instructions online for each shelter. Baltimore City: Contact MD SPCA and or BARCS, Baltimore Cnty: Contact Baltimore County Animal Services.
BARCS reporting for lost pets has changed. Info is on their website. Calling BARCS is not a good suggestion as they are almost always unable to answer the phone. The # for BCAS is 410-887-7297 and # for city is BARCS (city) is 410-396-4695 or SPCA @ 410-235-8826. BCAS in the Cnty. prefers you fill out the lost pet form online ilostmypet@baltimorecountymd.gov. For BARCS file a "lost pet form". This form must be returned to BARCS via email at resource@barcs.org or in person at 2490 Giles Rd, Baltimore, MD 21225. If in Harford County contact the Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connolly Rd, Fallston, 21047, 410-836-1090, Harfordshelter.org
Check the shelter *in person* every other day if possible. It is imperative that you check IN PERSON. Do not dismiss dogs that are posted based on photos alone (or collar, etc). Shelters DO make mistakes on intake and photos can be VERY deceiving.
Post to lost and found pet sites, neighborhood/community groups, yardsale sites for your area, etc.. The NextDoor app has been helpful with reuniting owners and pets. Place a lost pet ad on Craigslist and/or Pawboost..
Put up fliers for at least two to three miles in all directions. Place them in plastic page protectors turned upside down to protect from rain. Secure with tacks and fluorescent tape (or print on bright paper to draw the eye). Remember...not everyone uses Facebook! Mount a photo on bright posterboard and handwrite LOST, REWARD and your phone number in large print visible from a car. Place at intersections. You can also cover these signs with cellophane from the dollar store to protect from rain. Home Depot and Lowes sell blank signs with stands and you can mount bright posterboard to these.
Consider using a pet tracker.
Check Craigslist (for sale, pets and lost & found sections) and Facebook sites daily!
Put something with your scent outside. If possible, hang it so the wind carries your scent.
Walk your neighborhood and speak to your neighbors, MAILMAN, hand out fliers and put a sign in your front yard. Ask neighbors with cameras, to check them for sightings.
Contact a tracker or a drone service.
