TIPS TO HELP FIND YOUR LOST DOG:
- Be sure to check shelters in person, DAILY,
if possible. Ask to see dogs in isolation too!
Check shelter's websites as well.
File a lost report with the shelters in your area
and surrounding area shelters
(You can usually do it online)
Check shelters FOUND reports, for dogs found, but not at the shelter.
Take a flyers to the shelters.
- Place his/her bedding, a piece of your unwashed clothing and a bowl of water (no food) in your front yard. He/she may be able to pick up the scent and find his/her way home.
- If he/she is microchipped contact the microchip company to report him/her lost, and update your contact information.
- Hang flyers (use a bright color board or paper) with your dog's picture in your neighborhood, surrounding areas, local shopping centers, businesses, vet's offices, groomers, etc. within a five mile radius from your home.
- Go door to door with the flyers as well and try to speak with people when handing out flyers.
- Make a sign with his/her picture and put it in your front yard stating he/she is missing.
- Post online with Nextdoor.com, Pawboost.com, LostMyDoggie.com, Petharbor.com HelpingLostPets.com, californialostdogs.com, findingfido.com, findingrover.com
- Post on area "lost and found pet" and community Facebook pages, area shelter Facebook pages, newspapers, and Craigslist.com
- Check the sites above for found pets and Craigslist for found pets, AND pets for sale.
- You can also make bumper stickers/magnets to put on your car and hand them out for others to put in their cars.
