Shared, Since the kitty isn't chipped, posting on Nextdoor is a good start. Also file a found report with the shelter right away. The family may already be checking there for any information on the kitty's whereabouts. You can file online, and you don't have to surrender the kitty to do it. Check posts of missing kitties on Pawboost and other lost and found pet websites, the kitty could be reported missing on any of them. Go back on their posts at least a few weeks to be sure, since there's no way to know how long the kitty has been out there. Post flyers in your area, including veterinary offices and pet stores. Not everyone checks online, so this step can make a big difference. Also check Pet listings on FB Marketplace, Craigslist and Pennysaver. If no information can be found and you need to rehome the kitty, please contact local cat rescue groups for advice and help. Good luck.
