Shared. Please take the kitty for a microchip scan asap. Any vet can do it, verify it's at no cost to you when you call to arrange it. Post the kitty on Nextdoor right away. File a found report with the shelter asap. The family may already be checking with them for any information. You don't have to surrender the kitty to file the report. Post flyers in your area, including veterinary offices and pet stores. Post flyers in your area, including veterinary offices and pet stores. Not everyone checks on social media, so this step can make a big difference. Check posts of missing kitties on Pawboost, the kitty could be reported missing on the website. Go back on their posts at least a couple of weeks to be sure. Ask for proof if someone contacts you to claim the kitty, like pictures of the kitty with the claimant/family (veterinary records, too). Also keep a close eye on the kitty's reaction to the person claiming the kitty. If no information can be found, and you need to rehome the kitty, please contact local rescue groups for advice and help. Good luck
