Kellie Ford Hammer one of my cats was missing for 15 days. We did all the things advised above. The night before she returned I stood on a ladder and called her name over and over again. We were.lucky she came home, but that was the last time she was allowed out in the yard. Another feral we adopted was happy indoors and out. I wanted to keep him in but there was a nasty tom that had been attacking cats in the neighborhood. Our neighbor's young cat was left out a lot and so I kept Mr Cat out at night to help protect her. He disappeared for 3 days, then came back while I was gardening. I realized he was in severe pain so I took him to our vet. He had massive internal injuries. The vet did surgery but we did not have much hope. He died a few days later. By all the signs his injuries were human caused. This is why all of our cats, including the one Mr Cat was protecting and who is now our cat, are indoor only cats. Cars, dogs, people, coyotes-all are hazards. I don't say this to alarm the poor people whose kitty is lost, but to make people think carefully about this question, indoors or both.
