MESSAGE FROM OWNER

Dewey/Dewbert is a big baby at only 1 year old. Our sweet boy is an indoor only cat who unexpectedly got out after 1 AM through a broken screen while trying to "protect" us from deer in our yard. Dewey is a squishy baby with a teeny-tiny meow/meep. He has a family with 4 boys and a mom who love and miss him dearly. He also has a big sister cat named Goblin who is trying to pretend she's glad her annoying little brother is missing, but has been walking around calling for him all day. 😿 Please help bring Dewbert ! Thank you!

DESCRIPTION

grey with very faint stripes, white chest, belly, ties and muzzle with pink nose and amber eyes. Weighs approx 13.5 lbs and was wearing a purple velvet collar w/bell and ID tag.

If you can get a live trap that will help. Have neighbors check all garages and sheds in case he got stuck in one. Also check sewers and in trees because a lost cat was recently stuck in one. And under porches. At night go outside with a flashlight and some treats or a bag of cat food and call for him.You can also play ringtones of kittens meowing- he might hear it. Shine the flashlight in bushes so you can see his eyes glowing. Many people have found their lost pets between midnight-6 am. Be sure to check all surrounding shelters, rescues and vets in case someone found him and brought him there. Also check with your mail carrier as they see alot on their routes.Go outside when its dark with a laser pointer and point it to the ground-he might see it. If you have a baby monitor put it outside so you can hear him. Leave your garage door up a little bit and put some food in there so he can go in. And most importantly- do NOT listen to anyone who tells you to text a number or code or to go onto Instagram or FB for "pet rescuers", "pet trackers" or "pet detectives" because they're scammers preying on pet owners and should be reported and banned.

Put out something that he's familiar with that carries his scent (a bed, a blanket but NOT a litterbox), call for him in the quiet, still hours (12am-7am) THIS IS SO IMPORTANT, put out food in intervals (not at night) when you can keep an eye out. Lost pet cats go into survival mode super fast, you may need a humane trap if he doesn't turn up right away. Talk to your neighbors (most don't go far and find an open garage or shed to huddle down) and put signs in your local pet store (if someone takes him in they will need litter and food). I hope you find him 🍀

A few things you can try are: cats are active at night and early morning, walk around the outside of your house/building and whisper their name, do not shout it, the less yelling and excitement the better and then listen for a meow. They usually don't stray very far from home. Put his food/water, catnip, and clothing you wore earlier in the day in front or in back of your house, they say cats can smell up to a mile. Do not leave the food out overnight as it may attract other animals that can scare the kitty away. Go to your neighbors and let them know your kitty got out and give them your contact info. Walk your neighborhood, shake the treat jar and talk to people as you walk and talk to your mail carrier. They see lots of animals and if they see a strange Kitty around they may recognize it as yours. Make sure you call local animal shelters, etc. Cats can disappear for days, weeks, months or longer and return so don't give up!
