Message from Owner

My husband and I are beyond gutted. We have been searching endlessly for days for our beloved tortoise and have yet to find her. She is 6" long x 4.5" wide. She is incredibly hardy, and we know she is still out there. We need your help locating her and bringing her ! Please look around your yard! She is a land-only tortoise and CANNOT SWIM. She will be basking in the sun in the early morning/afternoon, otherwise she will be hiding under bushes/shrubs or other low structures (decks/sheds/rock formations), or in plants, leaves, or pine needle piles. She loves to dig and burrowing can happen, especially when the weather has been very cool or it’s time for bed (around 4 pm). Look for loose soil and other clues of disturbance. She tends to burrow out a little half cave for herself (see the picture of her in the pine needles) and very rarely will be fully covered, but it’s not impossible. Even in that case, you will still see loose soil as a hint.

If I were you, I would put posters up at the middle school and at the elementary school and offer a reward. All those kids who still play outside will keep their eyes open. It makes sense and it's worth a shot.

We are still trying everything we can to help spread the word and keep the search up on our own end as well. Still no luck, but we are not giving up. The more help to spread the word, the better!
