Message from Owner

My husband and I are beyond gutted. We have been searching endlessly for days for our beloved tortoise and have yet to find her. She is 6" long x 4.5" wide. She is incredibly hardy, and we know she is still out there. We need your help locating her and bringing her ! Please look around your yard! She is a land-only tortoise and CANNOT SWIM. She will be basking in the sun in the early morning/afternoon, otherwise she will be hiding under bushes/shrubs or other low structures (decks/sheds/rock formations), or in plants, leaves, or pine needle piles. She loves to dig and burrowing can happen, especially when the weather has been very cool or it’s time for bed (around 4 pm). Look for loose soil and other clues of disturbance. She tends to burrow out a little half cave for herself (see the picture of her in the pine needles) and very rarely will be fully covered, but it’s not impossible. Even in that case, you will still see loose soil as a hint.

Gene Danforth unfortunately she is still missing. We think she may have found a comfy spot to burrow and start her hibernation at this point. Please keep an eye out for any loose soil or burrows that are 4.5 inches wide or larger! We remain hopeful that she is still out there, with no natural predators in the area.

Keithand SMarie sadly there are people who steal them for soup. My daughter's turtle could climb the fence. Saw him do it.

Kathleen Avery my sister's tortoise went missing YEARS ago. Never been found. Do people steal these animals? Her tortoise was outside in a fenced-in area. No idea how it got out without help... 😭😭So sad...

Gail Miller being cold blooded not sure if it would work. He will hide under things at night when it’s the best time to try that or in the sun during the day. Both things say it could be difficult. I don’t know anyone that plus he could be a mile away by now. He has a 50 50 chance if he can find a burrow for the winter from what I’ve read. I can only hope he does. It would be the first time in 20 years he’s been free and he never stopped trying to escape along the fence line but couldn’t. Sure not like a dog that could come home. Or maybe my nephew took him. Idk but wouldn’t accuse. I’ll never know. Thank you for caring and trying to help.
