Message from Owner

My husband and I are beyond gutted. We have been searching endlessly for days for our beloved tortoise and have yet to find her. She is 6" long x 4.5" wide. She is incredibly hardy, and we know she is still out there. We need your help locating her and bringing her ! Please look around your yard! She is a land-only tortoise and CANNOT SWIM. She will be basking in the sun in the early morning/afternoon, otherwise she will be hiding under bushes/shrubs or other low structures (decks/sheds/rock formations), or in plants, leaves, or pine needle piles. She loves to dig and burrowing can happen, especially when the weather has been very cool or it’s time for bed (around 4 pm). Look for loose soil and other clues of disturbance. She tends to burrow out a little half cave for herself (see the picture of her in the pine needles) and very rarely will be fully covered, but it’s not impossible. Even in that case, you will still see loose soil as a hint.

My daughter's George was lost. It has been years but he is still missed. He was an alligator snapping turtle.

Jessika Francesca thank you, thank you, thank you! 🥹 As the nights get cooler, there’s a chance she may have burrowed. Keep an eye out for any disturbed or loose soil if you can!

Jessika Francesca unfortunately she is still missing. An overwhelming amount of missing tortoise stories end with them showing up weeks, sometimes months later, so we’re not losing hope!! Please keep an eye out!

Liz Verhey Thank you so much for keeping the search alive!! It truly means so much to us. The good and the bad news is that a lot of the food she commonly eats that would draw her in is readily available in the surrounding area. Weeds, such as dandelion, broadleaf, plantain, and violet are some of her favorites. Outside of that, she’s crazy for butternut squash, pumpkin, and a little fruit as a treat (a strawberry and a blackberry from time to time). The problem we have been having leaving out food is that all the wildlife keeps eating it. If you see a bite mark that looks like a little V in it, that could be her!
