Back in October, our newly adopted 3 yr old Maltese mix slipped her collar and ran while we were in a town 20 miles from our home. After two days of frantically searching, walking up and down streets for hours calling for her, posting flyers, posting on FB lost pet sites, enlisting the help of people who lived in this town including the police and firefighters, we took the advice of a woman who has her own search and rescue dog. She told us to go to the last place our dog was seen, sit down with a bowl of water and food (she said food that gives off a big aroma like juicy hamburger) and wait for her to find us. We didn’t even get to sit in the folding chairs we brought. She turned up very quickly.
The tracker told us of a man who waited in a field all night for his dog, he got tired about three or four in the morning and decided to lay down in the backseat of his car for a nap. He woke to find his dog beside his car waiting to be let in.
I was so reluctant to take this advice. Shin splints, loss of voice from calling for her and the fear that we would never see her again forced me to try it. I am still amazed that it worked. I hope that it will work for you.
