Shared. If you're able to secure the pup, please arrange a microchip scan asap. Some pet stores and most vet offices will do it for free. Post flyers in the area where you found the pup, talk to people in the neighborhood. Someone might know something about the pup's family. Post the pup on Nextdoor, and file a found report with the shelter right away. The family may already be checking with the shelter for any information. You don't have to surrender the pup to file the report. Check posts of missing pups on Pawboost, could be reported missing on the website. Go back on their posts at least a couple of weeks to be sure. No way of knowing how long the pup has been out there. Ask for proof when someone contacts you to claim the pup, and pay close attention to the pup's reaction to the person. If no information can be found and you need to rehome the pup, please contact local rescue groups for advice and help. Good luck
