🐱💖🙏🐱💖🙏 Dear Guardian .....DON’T LOSE HOPE. Scared cats are the stealthiest of hiders and those that get STUCK will often not meow so their human must take action in various ways in order to cover ALL possibilities, daily/nightly until kitty is found. Those who search and flyer and talk to neighbors and go out at night...use camera aimed at food etc - tend to FIND their kitty...though sometimes it can take WAY longer than expected. 🐱💖💖💖💖🙏Lost Calico cat ‘kittie’ was spotted after 4 weeks in a neighbors yard ( 2 residences away) who we flyered so they called us -we kept leaving food and trapped her while watching from a baby monitor to make sure we didn’t trap neighbor cats. The point of this is to Keep taking action every day/night. Cats remain near - they do NOT go far from home....Continue to call for kitty - ESPECIALLY at night 10pm-6am..set your alarm for 11pm, 2am, 5am ...walk around the block and call for kitty ...Lost cat SQUIRREL was found after 13 nights of his guardian searching at night with a flashlight (kitty ‘squirrel’ got out from the street front and mostly cement on those blocks) During they day they went door to door finding out who had RING cameras and 7 days in, a neighbor spotted ‘squirrel’ cat walking by on camera at 2am...this gave them the extra boost of hope and they continued to search 11pm-2am. Try everything. Some cats will hide for a good 10 days until extreme HUNGER forces them out…sometimes only at night. And often cats get stuck in a garage while that neighbor is Out of town for over a week! Go back and talk to any neighbor who wasn’t home before… 🐯 If your neighborhood isn't already plastered with flyers , PRINT more flyers and add or replace flyers - IMPORTANT: knock on neighbors doors AGAIN and REMIND them that your sweet kitty is still missing and ask them to check around especially at night especially..ask neighbors with RING cameras to check the footage in case kitty is spotted...whatever you do, do NOT lost hope...keep searching and spreading the word with your neighbors door to door - they need to be reminded kitty is still out there and many many cats are found long after they are lost - we are still early in this… 🐯**IMPORTANT** PLACE A CAMERA (motion activated with night vision) aimed at WET food in bowl every day and night. ( you can buy amazon) ..OFTEN cats remain near but are in such survival mode - they will even act scared of their human's voice and won't come inside and need to be coaxed...Lost cat 'Luna' was spotted on camera after being 'lost' for several weeks, her human was shocked to learn Luna was visiting the backyard regularly late night and would come back inside (she was leaving the backdoor open for her) We thought she was stuck at a neighbors which happens all the time...and it was the help of the camera which helped her human learn about the different cats that would visit and other animals...she eventually spotted her 'live' in her backyard (she did a stake out just inside with a baby monitor) and was able to lure her back inside with food after several hours late night. I'm not saying this is your situation ...I'm saying that you can't rule anything out… - WiFI Camera with night vision example: https://a.co/5Pb6VTA - WIldlife camera wifi not needed / eight AA batteries: You have to manually check footage: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B099F54JJ4… 🐯PER 'The Community Cats podcast episode - their advice about taking action right away and consistently....and along with late night/early morning calling out etc is getting permission from each neighbor near you to physically go into their yards to search and call for kitty (by yourself) to search under porches and anywhere they can possibly hide! Studies have proven 🐯Indoor cats remain near HIDING IN SILENCE and are mostly found within a few houses away from escape point and outdoor/indoor cats mostly within a 1 block radius...indoor cats that area scared remain near and in hiding until threshhold of hunger will make them come out of hiding to look for food though they will still continue to hide from humans...so it's important for their human to search daily/nightly and not to give up no matter what. They mentioned that sometimes when cats aren't coming back they may be ill and need medical attention so taking action to actively search in neighbors property is so important They also say that cat owners give up way too soon and cats end up at the shelter months down the road by getting trapped by a caring person - and those cats are NOT reclaimed because owners stop checking the shelters... 🐯 GAIN ACCESS TO NEIGHBORS YARDS: Knock on your neighbors doors in ALL directions to ask for permission to check yards and around the premises so YOU can call for kitty today and tonight and early morning...scared cats will NOT come forward right away and they are excellent hiders! You have to keep trying this and explain to neighbors that cats protect themselves by hiding - even from their guardian - until THEY feel safe to come forward.... 🐯 Check your local animal shelter in person every 4 days🙏🙏they don’t always show all their 'processed' cats online… For SAN FRANCISCO ACC call them first as they have a new policy of NOT accepting ‘healthy’ found cats…though sometimes they do! (Borrowed the following from a caring neighbor Kaz on Nextdoor): 🐯 In addition to what you're doing keep checking Animal Care & Control’s photo inventory of found cats in case someone has found the cat and turned it in. https://www.sfanimalcare.org/stray-found-cats/ 🐯 Also, make sure that the cat’s microchip information is up-to-date. If you don’t have the cat’s microchip number, check with your vet who should have it in the cat’s records. In addition to updating wherever your cat’s chip was originally registered (or even if you don’t remember where you originally registered the chip), register your cat at the free Found Animals chip registry, https://www.foundanimals.org/microchip-registry/owners and the free pet chip registry, https://www.freepetchipregistry.com/ with your current contact information in order to increase the chances that if your cat is picked up, they can contact you. (I say increase the chances because sadly there are multiple databases for different chips and they are not all interconnected.) We had a sad story on Nextdoor about a lost cat ‘Gonzo’, who was found by ACC, but because the chip linked to outdated information, ACC couldn’t reach the owner, and they ultimately euthanized him because of medical issues. 🐯Sending you HOPE, LOVE and continued determination and perseverance damia (www.happycatlady com)🐱💖🙏

It's dark already.. Right now Go out the 'escape' door and CALL For kitty in a calm NORMAL voice(no stress in your voice) and then wait...repeat...keep calling and if kitty likes the sound of crinkling a treat bag or opening a can please try that...call for your sweet kitty for 15 minutes straight in one spot sitting down..calm calm … 🐯💜 Please do not rely solely on online folks to find kitty - YOU are exactly where kitty is nearest. You WILL find your kitty. Some cats will hide for several days in one spot SCARED / frozen …until hunger makes them come out at night so the food and camera are much needed! And of course kitty could have gotten stuck in a garage or shed or bat or got way deep under a crawl space...so FLYERING and talking to your neighbors is critical....talk to dog walkers as they go out at all hours and have often spotted a lost cat I was looking for.... continue calling for kitty at ALL hours with a CALM normal voice - it is best to cover ALL possibilities even though it can feel like alot of work - it is SO worth it and it's also nice to meet your neighbors - 98% will be empathetic and will keep an eye out. It’s best to explain that your cat is scared and WILL HIDE from ALL humans during the day but could get spotted at night when even scared cats try to make their move to come home (or again kitty could be stuck). 🐯💜If kitty got out from the front and you have a garage, leave garage open 5-6 inches and placed WET food and water just inside - aim a camera at the food - and also place kitty’s BEDDING on the opposite side of the garage closest to the door leading into the residence…leave that door cracked open (if connected to the garage) If kitty got out from back, then place the wet food and water just inside the door left wedged 5” open…leave the lights off or LOW at night for kitty to return. 🐯💜 Also, yes The WIFI camera pointed at wet food and water you leave out AM and PM is a HUGE HELP - incorporating a motion activated camera is a MUST for me now when I help folks find their lost cats...not knowing if they are stuck or hiding...spotting kitty eating at 2am on camera then hiding again will inspire you to double down on all your effort and also help you determine if you might need to TRAP your kitty if kitty continues to HIDE from you (in survival mode) ...sorry I repeat info as I just want you to be fully armed with what works. Many guardians will doubt their cat is near then shocked to find their cat literally next door after a week (sometimes they jump a fence then cant' get back)..sometimes they hided deep under a porch or get Stuck in the bat or pipe drainage area (if there is one)...cats can get in the smallest places... Call for kitty late night from the escape point…sit on the ground and gently call for kitty over and over...sometimes it takes a few nights/week of doing this and kitty finally feels 'safe' to come forward after the 100th time you’ve called out ... and sometimes you HAVE to trap because they are in survival mode and will even hide from the human they love and trust (it's not personal it's how they survive). 3 weeks ago, Lost cat 'Hugo's guardian called for him for a week straight and flyered ...then one night she heard a faint meow and hopped a neighbor's fence and found her cat disorientated...a few weeks ago a cat finally meowed from under a garage crawl space from next dooor - they had to use a drill to open up the closed opening ... And in some cases the lost cat will come forward when the guardian will sit outside for hours 10pm onward (hopefully you can do this tonight) Did he get out from the front or back do you know? If from the front and you have a garage...open the garage all the way tonight - dim lighting...and hang in there working on your computer or talking to a friend over the phone...of course stinky wet food and water .... then you can leave it 6 inches open with food and water on one side and his bedding on the opposite side (away from the food which can attract predators) . 🐯💜 We trapped a cat that got outside of at a cat sitters house. The owner thought the cat was GONE...I said NO, the cat is scared and will remain within ear shot even though there wasn't any place to hide (cement front yards) ....at night the cat would return every few days - caught on a camera I set up pointed at the food - it took a few nights to trap the cat - he had to be hungry enough to go all the way into the trap (I placed a trail of a couple of blobs of wet food at the entrance and midway the trap leading to the 'trip plate' (that makes the trap door close) and dish of food at the far end .... TODAY Print MORE flyers to post around your neighborhood on every lampposts (both sides) and distribute door to door to every single residence around your block and across the street... ask folks to keep an eye out and to check yards, garages...Often times a neighbor will SPOT kitty - so DO IT ALL. I'm here if you need to talk or have any questions... You can get a basic camera with night vision that will send notifications to your phone at BEST BUY in person or or via AMAZON though it may take a few days...you can always repurpose the camera or even return it once you're done ...Get one no matter what. Wishing you Love and determination you will find kitty...be patience...and don't' let ANYONE tell you kitty is GONE - I’ve helped people find cats after they’ve been lost for weeks...hang in there and focus all your worry toward taking action in all the ways mentioned. damia foti 650-339-6619 (www.happycatlady.com) 🐯💜MY SOPHIE: I had a scare with My sweet black cat ‘Sophie’ earlier this week... Sophie used to laying in the sun in our backyard ONLY during the day with our other cats (we have a VERY tall fence) and while I was on a work meeting I heard my cats get into a scuffle (she tends to get bullied a bit) ... I mistakenly waited 10 minutes to finish the meeting before going outside..she was no where to be found. I called for her calmly about 50 times before I heard a meow in the near distance ...I ran up the stairs to get a view over the fence and could see her 2 backyards away meowing!! I rang doorbells and luckily that neighbor was home and allowed me to the backyard ...I kept gently calling 'sophie..sophie' and she kept meowing but was SCARED and kept moving AWAY from ME as I approached her slotly! (Sophie sleeps with me every night and follows me around all day and is the only cat that actually listens to me so I was reminded how scared cats go into survival mode) Then all of a sudden Sophie jumped over a low fence to yet another yard over!..I was like WTF - didn't want to waste time so I jumped over that fence WITH a cat carrier (opens from top) and sat on the ground near her, gently calling for her - this time with the intention of calming the energy I was putting out. I told the neighbor to stay inside and let me do it alone. Sophie kept meowing and meowing but hiding in bushes then going to other bushes away from me...she was on the verge of jumping another fence and I took a chance and approached slowly and called her name as calmly as possible .... I slowly and firmly picked her up and placed her securely in the carrier (OPEN carrier TOP WAS KEY) and closed it quickly!... 🐯💜The lesson I learned and want to impart is that even confident cats - ONCE SPOOKED / in survival mode - will HIDE FROM EVERYONE - EVEN from the human they love. And that we must be patient and calm... Every cat responds a bit differently to stress / getting spooked …but just realize that you CAN get kitty home…you may have to TRAP her...if you spot her on camera eating food but hiding from you then trapping would be the next step - happy to talk to you about HOW TO DO THIS. With love hope, 💖🐱damia foti 650-339-6619(www.happycatlady.com)💖🐱

If he’s indoor only, he’s hiding nearby. When cats are outside their territory they do not run away, they hide! Put out his litter box, food and water and owners familiar scents. Look with a flashlight even during the day the day under bushes, cars, porches , decks, along building, and fence lines. Put fliers around asking neighbors to please check their property throughly. Check security cameras too! File a lost report with the shelter asap! Post on Nextdoor. If he continues to hide set a humane trap. Hope you find your pretty kitty soon.

If he is an outdoor kitty put flyers on neighbors porches asking them to check their property throughly. When outdoor cats go missing it is usually because they are trapped somewhere nearby. Look in garages, sheds, bats, crawl spaces, storm drains. Look on roofs and up in trees too. Look with a flashlight even during the day. File a lost report with AC and put fliers at nearby vet offices, post on Nextdoor too. . . If he is scared, ill or injured, he will hide like an indoor only cat or if he is indoor only, look with a flashlight even during the day under bushes, cars, porches and decks, anywhere he could be trapped inside and unable to return home! Make sure you reach out to neighbors asking to check security cameras too! . Make sure no one in your neighborhood is trapping cats. Good luck
