Tips for finding lost dogs:
⢠Post flyers everywhere â make sure there is a large, colorful picture that clearly shows your pup. Dogs can travel farther and faster than you expect, so cast a wide net. And donât assume that busy roads are effective barriers â dogs can get across those.
⢠Check in with local vets, rescues, and shelters. And keep checking in with them daily â donât assume that because youâve given them your info once theyâll immediately recognize your pet and contact you.
⢠Hit up all of the neighborhood social media apps, including Pawboost, the local Patch, Nextdoor, FB neighborhood groups, local Ring networks, Maryland - Lost Dogs, Cats, & Pets , ect; as well as posting fliers. If your pet was adopted through a rescue or shelter you may also want to contact them, as they may have additional resources to help. Donât rely on just one resource.
⢠If you adopted through a rescue or shelter, contact them. They may be able to help you search.
⢠Dogs tend to find one place to stay during the day, and are more active right around sunrise and at night. So those are the best times to go looking.
⢠Set out food & water and blankets or clothing with familiar scents on them for the pup to track.
⢠If you spot your dog donât run towards (or after) them â the pup may get spooked and keep running. Try to initiate play instead, that may bring your pup close enough to catch.
⢠Check in with your neighbors (go door to door) and anyone you see walking dogs, and if itâs been a few days with no luck you might want to look into hiring a dog tracker.
