MESSAGE FROM OWNER

Mr. Peepers is the love of my life. Five and one-half years ago while I was in Saudi Arabia teaching English, I was so distressed by the number of cats I saw running wild, breeding, and not being cared for. I just did not know what I could do about this to make a difference. Also, personally, because of the strict Arab/Islamic laws regarding the way women are treated in Saudi Arabia, I found this treatment and the resulting isolation to be unbearable for me. For some time, I prayed on both of these problems because I knew that if I did not get some help, I would not be able to endure staying there much longer. I was given an answer to this prayer in the form of a little tiny black cat that was so small it settled right into the palm of my hand. It had no mother that I could see, nor any siblings. It was alone, playing under a car when I was able, with a lot of work, to catch it. It had no teeth yet. It was so young I could not yet tell if it was a boy or a girl. (Of course, I was averse, because of issues of privacy, to look under there at its genitals.) The vet said it was about 5 weeks old, and that it was feral. (It was such a scraper but so cute, so full of personality, because it was just so tiny, that I was able to be with it without many problems.) The reasons I called him Peepers, which eventually became Mr. Peepers, was because both his eyes were caked over with pussy stuff, which the vet said was a condition that happened to all stray cats in Saudi Arabia. One time I was wiping this face and his eyes, and one eye opened up as I removed all the puss - the left eye. Then, just out of nowhere the song lyric, "Jeepers creepers, where's you get those Peepers?" just popped into my head. I knew then that that was it's name!! One eye or no eyes, I knew that this tiny gorgeous little creature was the answer to my prayer. He had been given to me for me to take care of; and that was all there was to that! After I saw the vet and she had given me some ointment to treat its eyes, the second eye opened as well, and there it was, an even more gorgeous creature! It had been given full sight, it was blessed, and I was as well, because it could now see. I say that I was given the blessing to take care of this lovely little guy, (eventually his genitals dropped and I knew he was a boy), but that is so, so far from the truth. This little creature saved me! He "took care of me" in my stay in Saudi Arabia. Without him I could not have lasted there. He was just so beautiful, so loving, so lovely, so much full of inquisitiveness and life. I stayed teaching in Saudi Arabia for two years. This was quite an accomplishment: there was an average run of about 5 male teachers every two months. They just disappeared; got their money-cash at the end of the month; and headed for the airport - didn't even say good-bye. When I did get a chance to speak to one of them - it is haram for single men and women to be together and speak - haram? totally forbidden!!!, he said he could not handle it without being around women and alcohol?! - so they run. When it was time for me to go, I did not even think twice: Peepers was going home with me! It seemed like an impossible act for me: one, as a woman I did not have the freedom of mobility to do all I had to do to implement this, and two, how was I going to get a cat out of Saudi Arabia and into the United States. Well, I adopted the obsession that I was just going to keep on going until something or someone stopped me. I got over every cultural obstacle; and NO ONE stopped me. I arrived here on July 2. Peepers came in on July 3. Why the day difference?: we both took the same airplane from Riyadh to Dubai. According to airline rules, an animal cannot be in the air for the length of time it would take to fly from Riyadh to Seattle. So, Peepers was taken off the plane, and he spend a day at a Pet Spa - yes a Pet Spa - in Dubai. I always kid him that he is more widely traveled than I am. He was in Dubai. I was only in the Dubai airport! So this is out story. (And there is so, so much more, but I have already written a lot. Peepers is my darling baby. He saved me, and I am blessed to have been able to save him! Now he is missing - 4 1/years we have been together - and all I do now is cry. I want him back! PLEASE help me to get him back!

Actually there was one sighting by my house mate - about 2 weeks ago now. Just outside his window, he heard a cat screaming. He was sleeping - 3 pm - because he works nights. The scream woke him up, he looked out his window, and saw a young man taking a cat, that matched Peeper's description, into his student apartment building. I went to see the manger of the building but after all this time, I am still waiting to see the security film that he said I could see. My heart is just breaking because Peepers could be? might be there yet, in my opinion, I can't do anything. The manager, again in my opinion, is stalling me. I just don't know what to do here!!!!

Thank you for your kind words and your concern. I have put out his litter box but nothing has happened. I live in the U district and I have signed onto a Neighborhood email group and asked for any help. The responses have been supportive but no sightings. I have walked blocks and blocks calling for him but there has been no response their either. I am just beside myself with grief. I just don't know what I am going to do!
