How We Reunited 2 Million Lost Pets

We’ve Reunited 2 Million Lost Pets — Here’s How It Happened

Two million wagging tails, happy tears, and joyful reunions. This month, we hit a major milestone: 2 million pets reunited with their families since we launched 10 years ago. It’s more than just a number – it’s a story of love, tech, and community. From a cat named Chelsea who was found 26 days later, to Sam the bird who was found 7 miles across the river – PawBoost has helped bring millions of pets back home where they belong.

PawBoost takes a community-centric approach to lost pet reunification. Our alerts reach over 50 million people monthly across some of the web’s largest platforms – Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram. We also send over 600k email alerts every day, and we have the largest and most visited lost & found pets database in the world.

PawBoost by the Numbers

Massive local awareness and community engagement has proven extremely effective in reuniting pets. Here are some impact stats:

💚 Over 20,000 pets are reunited every month on average.

📊 48% of lost pets are reported reunited (50% of dogs, 42% of cats).

⌛ 80% of reunions happen within 3 days of posting.

👥 PawBoost Alerts reach over 50 million people every single month.

Every Reunion Has a Story

Neighbor Reunites Missing Cat

Chelsea had recently been staying indoors more, but one day she slipped outside and didn’t return. Her family waited, but as days passed, they feared the worst.

A kind neighbor had been feeding her for a week and eventually checked PawBoost. Chelsea didn’t have a collar, but after gaining her trust, the woman sent photos to the family, who confirmed it was her. Later that day, the woman coaxed Chelsea into a carrier, and the reunion finally happened.

Chelsea had been missing for 26 days and had crossed into an unfamiliar area. Though her family had put up posters, they hadn’t searched in that direction. PawBoost played a key role in bringing her home.

Found Miles Away After Weeks

Sam, a beloved shoulder-perching companion, flew off unexpectedly when his owner stepped outside. Heartbroken, she searched for days – posting signs, calling out with voice recordings, and even getting help from Mardi Gras booth owners.

Four weeks later, a woman seven miles away spotted Sam in her yard and gave him shelter. Thanks to his PawBoost alert, she reached out – and the reunion finally happened.

Sam’s family is incredibly grateful to everyone who helped bring him home.

A Message from Our Founder

“It’s an honor to be celebrating this major milestone of 2 million pets reunited with the help of PawBoost. If you’ve ever lost a pet, you know how it feels: terrifying, helpless, frantic, even guilty. You don’t think it will ever happen to you – until it does. I know these feelings well, because it’s happened to me, too. And that’s why I started PawBoost.

But the credit goes to two extraordinary forces: our unbelievable community and our incredible team. The millions of pet lovers who spread the word, offer support, and make lost & found connections are the heart of this mission. And behind the scenes, our small but mighty team of passionate animal lovers pours everything into helping families reunite with their pets. The world is a better place when we humans help each other, and that’s what PawBoost is all about.”

– Clayton Gladieux, CEO of PawBoost

What’s Next?

PawBoost is well-known for being the public’s #1 tool for lost pet reunification. But we also have shelter partnerships that increase return-to-home (RTH) by boosting visibility for stray intakes – automatically and for free.

Over the next 5 years, we intend to partner with the majority of high intake shelters so that over 90% of shelter intakes will be included in PawBoost’s lost & found database. This will raise massive awareness for these found animals, fostering more lost & found connections, and ultimately getting more animals home safe & sound.
