Message from Owner

PLEASE HELP: My dad gave my cat "Nabby" up to the Kent County Animal Shelter around October 2025 without telling me. He doesn't know for sure if it was that shelter specifically. I'm desperate to know she is alive and in a safe, loving . This is not a plea to get her back. I just want to know she is okay. If anybody recognizes this cat, any information will help.

He would have needed an appointment to take the cat to either the animal shelter or the Humane Society so I worry that it could be something else.

Larita Kemp It was not my decision to get her declawed. I was around 13 when we got her, and my dad thought she was too "crazy" and decided declawing her would calm her down. She was perfectly normal, just playful because she was a kitten. Ever since she was declawed, her behavioral problems started because she was probably in so much pain and stressed out. My dad refused to believe declawing her was the issue, despite so many veterinarians telling him so. I'm worried sick about her right now.

Stephanie Hassett It upsets me so much when I read of lost declawed cats. They have no defense, can't climb a tree for safety and are not able to catch food. They usually just hide. I'm saying this for anyone who doesn't understand that it's not just the claws removed but the "fingers" down to the first knuckle. All states should outlaw this cruel practice as did California.

Larita Kemp I understand your position, but we don’t know who had her cat declawed. I adopted a 16 year-old cat who was 4 paw declawed when I adopted her. She lived to 22. It was a horrible thing that her father did and I too hope she finds the answer she’s looking for.
