Frequently Asked Questions

I Found a Stray Animal. What Do I Do?

If you’ve found a stray animal, you should prioritize the safety of yourself and the animal. With that in mind, the steps you might take include:

  • Assess the situation — Depending on the type of animal you’ve found, you need to assess your abilities in the situation. For instance, if you’re not experienced with handling reptiles or working with horses, you shouldn’t rush in to catch the animal.
  • Contact local authorities — While you can sometimes capture a cat or dog on your own, as long as they aren’t aggressive, atypical pets like snakes or horses are typically best left to more experienced parties. Calling the local authorities and animal control can help you get a handle on the situation.
  • Post the animal on PawBoost — If possible, get pictures and a description of the animal. You can help the captured pet possibly reunite with its family with a found pet listing on PawBoost.

Where Do I Post a Found Rabbit or Ferret?

If you’ve found a rabbit or ferret, make sure to make a found pet listing on PawBoost! It’s also a good idea to call local shelters and vets to see if these animals have been reported missing in your area. Posting flyers around town can also help raise local awareness.

I Found a Lost Horse. Who Do I Call?

A horse is a large animal that requires experienced handling. Make sure you don’t approach a lost horse if you don’t have experience. It’s best to instead call your local authorities and animal control. They can help you get in touch with the right party who can help capture the lost horse and hopefully reunite it with its owner.

Does PawBoost Partner With Shelters to Reunite Missing Animals?

Yes! PawBoost partners with shelters and humane societies to help reunite missing pets with their families. If a partner shelter picks up a stray, we will automatically add it to our database. Please fill out an application if you want to become a partner!
