If you’ve found a stray cat, there are several steps to take to ensure the safety of both you and the cat. These steps include:
- Safely catch the cat — If the cat seems healthy and tame, approach it slowly and carefully. See if the cat will come to you. If possible, put the cat in a kennel for transportation.
- Check the collar — If you choose to bring the cat home, check to see if the cat has tags with the owner’s contact information.
- Call a local vet or shelter — If the cat has no information on its collar, call a local vet or shelter to see if the cat has been reported missing. They can also scan the pet for a microchip.
