Check with neighbours and surrounding Call all local vets and pounds Check all surrounding CCTV for any suspicious activity or foxes Late night early morning call is very important incase caught in neighbours garage etc Take a torch to reflect eyes If rural areas try a thermal drone or monoculars Flyers are important Pets often found close by as held by neighbours too afraid to call.pound in fear pet will be euthanised Physically check pounds as mistakes are made Chips can fail reading. Check marketplace & gumtree for quick resale. Call council roadside collections also to eliminate the worst. If recently relocated pets are known to travel back to old residence

Important. Put out piles of carers worn clothes near sightings in a sheltered spot where last seen. Advice from Victoria Lost Pets Register. You can message them on FB to list *search with fragrant hot food · Leave out some unwashed clothes or the dogs bedding, hang it on the clothesline so that the scent will travel in the breeze and hopefully smell their way home. *Door knock the area your dog went missing from. ( Put a poster on your front fence even if it is a hand written one with your mobile number on it in case someone comes door knocking while you are out looking.) · Is there a vacant house in the neighbourhood where they may have been popped in the yard to keep them safe, but nobody would realise that they are there? * · If your dog has potential to get onto farm land, contact farmers ASAP with your phone number so they contact you if they see them rather than exercising their rights · If your dog is a small pup, then please check hidey holes, especially under recliners, in bushes, pools and ponds, make sure they aren’t shut in cupboards or curled up unaware under a bed or in a box or basket. · If your dog is elderly, there is always a chance that they can have a degree of dementia and can get themselves stuck in corners, behind bushes, curtains and furniture, they can also wander off and not remember where they are. · Check with local and surrounding councils, leave your details and fill out a missing report, leave a flyer with a photo with them if possible, have a look in person as a description over the phone isn't always guarenteed. * If your dog is long haired, it can get caught on fences and in bushes, so check those places thoroughly. (Leave a microchip number with them in case something isn't working and they can't bring up details, anywhere they are likely to be scanned) · Check with the Lost Dogs Home, RSPCA, Rescues, Shelters and other pounds, if you are not sure of your areas pound council would be able to advise you on this. · Leave your details with vet clinics as someone may bring your dog in for a microchip scan or injured. · Put an ad on Gumtree in the “Lost and found pets” section as not everyone is on Facebook, also keep an eye on their ads · Put an ad in your local newspaper, it can be done on the phone, in person or online via their website as not everyone is on Facebook, also keep an eye on their ads. · Put an ad on the radio, this can be done via the radio station website or a phone call. · Print out flyers, we are able to make you a flyer if you need one, and deliver them around the neighbourhood where your dog went missing from · Put up posters in local areas where your dog went missing from such as shopping centres and corner stores. · have your dogs microchip flagged as missing, or call the microchip register if the number shows no results. · Put a poster on your front fence as some people will walk a found dog around the area they find it in.

‼️PLEASE READ ENTIRELY‼️ Contact all local veterinary clinics in and surrounding the area your dog was lost. Was your dog lost from home? - If yes, have you placed a “LOST DOG” sign on your front fence? - If yes, leave your dog’s bed in the front yard along with an item of your clothing. (The reason for this is to help your dog scent their way back home, if able). Have you door knocked all the neighbours surrounding the area your dog was lost? (Dogs have been found hiding in backyards, under houses and in bushland at the back of.neighbours properties.) Have you searched under bridges and in drains? Dogs have been found trapped under bridges and have fallen in drains unable to get back out. (A little dog last week fell down a drain and after the owner read my recommendations she checked the drains surrounding her home and found her dog trapped in the drain. The owner was extremely grateful for this advice.) ‼️ IMPORTANT‼️ Was your dog lost near bushland/state forests/reserves/parks/rivers/creeks? If yes, please search these areas for your darling dog. Take some food (try hot chicken). Dogs are often lost, hiding or trapped in parkland/bushland surrounding the area they were lost. They can get caught in heavy vegetation, collars and harnesses can get caught on branches or fences, leads can get caught in vegetation on the ground or they can fall down embankments and are unable to climb back out. Ten dogs recently lost: - dog found trapped in a lantana filled gully unable to move. - dog trapped in a dry river bed. - dog trapped in a riverbed with water. - dog had fallen down a steep embankment unable to climb out. - dog trapped in thick bushland. - dog hiding in a reserve. - two dogs found entangled in vines. - two dogs trapped in mangroves. When dogs are lost, hiding or trapped n bushland searching is the only way dogs are found otherwise they would not have survived. The majority of searches took between 27 - 72 hours to find their dogs however some searches took up to 10 days to find their dog in the bushland. WARNING: Bushland and long grass is extremely high risk for paralysis ticks. Tick Preventative not 100% effective. Paralysis ticks sit and wait on the end of overgrown or longer grasses for movement to attach to your dog or cat! Paralysis ticks can attach anywhere on your dog’s or cat’s body and can hide in areas you may not be able to see clearly, such as deep inside your dog’s or cat’s ear, between toes, inside the mouth. Check your dogs throughly when found. If sighted DO NOT CALL OUT OR CHASE your dog, instead SIT ON THE GROUND or CROUCH DOWN, hold out food/treats (if available), MAKE NO SUDDEN MOVEMENTS, wait for your dog to approach you then try to secure your dog. Your dog could currently be in “flight mode” which means they will not initially recognize you if sighted and it will require patience to rescue.
