FOUND A PET IN BALTIMORE COUNTY? Thank you for posting. Please use this checklist to help reunite this pet with owner: Have the pet scanned for a chip as soon as possible. Any vet will scan for free. Upload info to Petco Love Lost site. BCAS will place an animal on stray hold and allow 72 hours for an owner to claim. If you do not wish to surrender the animal immediately, you may hold for 72 hours. Please file a report with BCAS. If unable to hold, contact animal control at 410.887.7297 or 410.887.2222 after hours. They will pick up, scan, and transport to BCAS. Within 24 hours—Make a found animal report to BCAS. This should include the finder’s information, animals’ description, and the date and location the animal was found. Within 72 hours—Turn the animal over to BCAS. If you are unable to reunify the found pet with its owner after 72 hours or if you're unable to hold the animal, stray and found animals can be brought to our Baldwin facility during open hours. While in possession of a stray animal, the finder should actively attempt to locate and reunite the animal with its owner for the next 72 hours. Many owners do not use social media. Please post fliers/signs, place an ad on Craigslist and use free services such as Pawboost and helpinglostpets to help locate the owner. Nextdoor, Ring, and Neighbors can also be helpful. How to require proof of ownership: 1. Vet records with breed, name and owner's name listed; 2. Collar identification; 3. Spay/neuter status; 4. Photos with owner; 5. Identification of special characteristics/markings; 6. License/rabies paperwork; 7. Any combination of the other numbers 1-6 ⚠️Do not contact anyone who asks you to reach out via Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, etc. Do not respond to anyone who asks for a "code."
