I’m very sorry this happened, you basically have to have your head on a swivel when you have indoor cats. We have several, all indoors. Sure hope he isn’t stolen , and it’s a good thing he is microchipped. I had two taken out of my home without my consent, one to a local rescue. The volunteer wanted to return her after I showed several pics . However her boss the coordinator said no because no microchip or vet paperwork in my name . Delphine is her name . Not only that I wasn’t even told how I could adopt her out . This was 21/2 months ago and my I recently found out she was adopted out . Someone else now has my cat . Hopefully yours just wandered of and will return, or someone will return him to you . Cats are the best . I’ll be thinking of you
