Kendall Hillier I agree with the rest of your statement, but not the litterbox. There are a few scenarios when it is useful when all else fails, but only on a case-by-case basis. If it gets spread or wafted around, it can make things more difficult for tracking dogs, if the family chooses to use that service. This is not responsible advice to give unilaterally and you could be causing harm by advising this to others. If you want to do so personally, by all means, do what you feel is best. But, stop and think about how difficult it is to keep a dog out of a litterbox. Now, add birds, foxes, raccoons, rats, mice, etc. Cats may naturally come back to the home in the first 24-48 hours on their own, or they may hunker down for several days.. it depends on their demeanor and resiliency to being outside.
