Message from the owners of Gracie: while these are ALL possible ideas- Our cat, Gracie is still not home. After we had been out searching every day all day and all night for over one (1) month without a single word of any information, We finally received a phone call from someone from an area unfamiliar to us, which is nearly two (2) hours from our home in E. Stroudsburg. Here are the true facts: 1. Five feral cats had been on our front porch on 10/27/24 at about 4:00 p.m. 2. Our cat was extremely protective of our home and us, the feral cats may have been hungry,in pain or frightened, they were crying very loudly and obviously in distress. 3. Gracie is an ESA(C) ‘Emotional Support (Cat) Animal’ and the reason she went out the door, is because she was following me. She saw I was bringing these cats food, and water- and the cats were suffering. Our cat, tried her best to protect me. She had been an indoor cat her entire life, there is no doubt in our minds that she would not have traveled beyond a very short distance from her home. I asked the person that had called my cell phone “how could my cat have traveled that far of a distance?” The person didn’t answer me. Every person I’ve spoken to has said to me that my cat had to be brought that distance. Of course, absolutely, but for reasons we will never understand- this woman has repeatedly refused to return our cat to us. If anyone lives or works in or near Kingston, Pa. please keep our cat on your mind. She means so much to us. We would be so very appreciative. It will be two (2) years October 27, 2026. Gracie is gray with lighter and darker gray areas, she is a long haired female. She was spayed, and she has a microchip. She has white fur around her mouth and also white fur around both of her eyes and both of eyes look like she has white eyeliner around each of them. She’s a very sweet girl and only knew her home and family. We have ALL of her documentation and adoption records- we have absolutely everything to show a court of law that we are her LEGAL owners. Thank you to everyone and anyone that tries to help us bring our cat, Gracie back home.❤️ May God Bless You!

Put up fliers on all poles, post offices, vet offices, stores, gyms, anywhere you can think of and in mailboxes in the area. Go door to door to let people know the cat is missing. Go in person to local shelters (spca, etc) and do not rely on phone calls because they are busy and might not check. Put out some of your worn unwashed clothing and a bed or blanket he sleeps on so he can track the scent. Check under all neighborhood decks, porches, sheds and ask people to check inside their sheds and garages. Also check under and around all landscaping (shrubs, bushes, flower beds, etc.) in the neighborhood. Let the area mailman know to keep an eye out for him. Go out at night with the flashlight calling his name and shaking food or treats. Borrow a humane trap from a shelter, rescue group, vet, etc. Fill it with smelly food like KFC rotisserie chicken, sardines or tuna and cover it with a blanket or towel. If she is microchipped contact the company immediately to be sure your contact information is up to date. They may also help with creating fliers, etc. Go in person to local vets to inquire if someone may have brought her in. Post on Nextdoor for your town.

Setting a humane trap and getting a thermal detecting drone are your best ways to find him. Ask someone if they have a drone (possibly heat/thermal for night vision) to have them use it to find your cat and if your cat fits the description ask if you can view their video tapes to see if it's her. Post in newspaper bc not everyone has internet or facebook, ask if you can air on your local news channel, ask your neighbors if they can check security cameras to see if she's on the recording to see where she headed last. Put fliers on the 2 back windows of your vehicle.

FINDING INDOOR ONLY CATS WHO ARE LOST - [ ] Indoor only cats rarely travel far - they seek an immediate hiding place (under a deck or porch, under brush, in a garage or shed) and hunker down out of fear. Immediately start searching around your house as well as your neighbor’s houses with a flashlight (get on your hands and knees and shine the light under decks etc) - shake a treat bag and call it’s name and listen for a possible soft meow. (they are too scared to come out) ASK YOUR NEIGHBORS TO OPEN GARAGES AND SHEDS TO SEE IF THE CAT GOT LOCKED INSIDE.. They can stay in this spot for weeks! Indoor only cats RARELY come out during the day - they only come out after dark and into the wee hours of the morning. Be sure to check the surrounding trees as cats are often chased up trees and will sit up there for days and days…. What we have had great success with is this: Open your door throughout the night and call it’s name - often they will come running back in!Sit outside on your deck/porch and walk around your property and call it’s name during the night… and the number one thing that seems to be working is to leave the door ajar for it to get back in during the middle of the night! (Lock all your other pets away for the night!) Most cats have been coming in on their own between 2-4 am! Put all their smelly stuff (see below) near the door outside and inside as well as food! Cats have an amazing sense of smell - bedding, your dirty clothes/shoes, and a tiny bit of strong smelling wet cat food outside to attract your cat. We just heard of a tip of blowing a fan out the house window so that your house smells waft through the outside air to attract them back. Some people don’t agree w the litter putting dirty litter box out - if you live in an area with wild animals close by maybe skip that part. Set a Humane trap (like a Hav-A-Heart wire trap) bait it with smelly cat food….this is sometimes the ONLY way to catch a scared indoor only cat AND IT WORKS! Please if you put a trap out you have to check on it frequently especially in extreme weather. Hang LOST posters immediately and give one to every neighbor as too many people just assume when they see a cat that it is a stray - if they know you are looking for your cat they will be extra vigilant and want to help. Ask them to take a photo of any cats they see in your area –sometimes people think it is your cat but it is not. Put REWARD on the poster but not an amount. Immediately contact your Animal Control Officer and provide photos/description. Also contact local shelters, rescue groups and Vet offices. Post on Facebook on both local, county, & state pages (i.e. “Lost & Found Pets). Don’t just call shelters go to them. If your pet is not micro chipped please do so right away. DO NOT GIVE UP! It could take days, weeks or months but your cat is out there and you must keep up the search and spread the word with posters, speaking with neighbors, social media etc!!
