So sorry that your dog is missing. Please READ & TAKE ALL THE STEPS below to find your pet. 1. “Scent items” will help your pet smell their way back home if they are disoriented. Put your pet’s bed/blanket on the porch. Place some dirty laundry outside in the yard (like stinky socks, workout clothes)—the smellier, the better! 2. POST on Nextdoor. com (use the website or phone app) and post in your neighborhood Facebook groups. 3. If your pet is microchipped, find the chip # and call the microchip company to report your pet missing and to confirm they have your correct contact info. Your pet’s chip may not be properly ‘registered’ with the chip company, which is crucial. The vet should have your pet’s microchip number too. 4. POST SIGNS in your neighborhood. Many people are not on Facebook or social media and they won’t ever see social media posts. Signs/posters can be handwritten with a thick black marker. Post signs near community mailbox clusters too. 5. DISTRIBUTE FLYERS to area vet clinics, groomers, & pet stores. Also take a flyer to each home in your neighborhood. Try to speak with all your neighbors to make them aware. If you live in an apartment complex, ask management to email your flyer to all the residents 6. FILE a LOST PET report with the Austin Animal Center (shelter): https://24petconnect.com/BreedRequest/Lost Text LostAtx to 47177 for more tips. 7. LIST your pet on Pawboost. com (it’s completely free for a basic listing) The Pawboost site is widely used by those not on Facebook. 8. VIEW & SEARCH the listings of pets found in the area at View pets reported found 9. VIEW the pets currently at the shelter (Austin Animal Center). *Select only DOG; do not select any other criteria like gender, age, color—or you can miss seeing your pet’s listing: http://www.austintexas.gov/page/view-all-pets 10. GO TO THE SHELTER IN PERSON AND LOOK FOR YOUR PET: Visit the local animal shelter and go through all the kennels and take a printed flyer to leave there. The Austin Animal Center is open 11-7pm Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and 3pm to 7pm on Wednesday and Friday. 11. Post an ad on Austin Craigslist in both of these COMMUNITY sections: > Lost&Found > Pets
