Ok in heavy rain for two weeks my feral rescue cat went missing. I had been feeding for almost a year during Covid and suddenly she wasn’t showing up every day and I called her every morning and dusk evening for a week. So she knew I was looking for her !Later it was clear she was hiding injured with a broken tale also missing skin so maybe a miraculous escape for a coyote . I called her name One last morning 14 days since missing where usually fed her . She appeared slowly starving in infection pain but asking for help. I scooped her up , she started purring, fed her voracious new appetite and rushed her to an emergency vet . Her tail had to be amputated , but friends and a rescuer helps with almost all the bill. And now she is a house cat who never wants to go outside again. Keep calling in early morning and at night and keep a door discretely open . She wants to come home and believe it too.

🐈‍⬛LOST CATS: Please follow my personal advice. I have helped many people recover their lost house cats. Your cat is very close to home! Please follow my (original) advice. No litter box outside, no food outside. It will attract other animals including other cats who will keep your cat away if trying to return home. If you have a garage- set and MONITOR a humane cat trap on your garage at morning dusk and evening dusk especially. Use to food I lost below. Cover the trap with a towel. ⬇️ Distribute Flyers- by knocking on doors to your neighbors and handing them out, and posted them on poles etc. as well even to any businesses close by? This step is crucial to recovering your cat! Speak to people in person. I cannot stress enough, the importance of knocking on doors speaking to people and handing them a “lost cat” flyer at the same time. This is how you get sightings and this is what will bring your cat home. GARAGE- If you have a garage set and monitor the humane trap in the garage leaving the garage open a little for the cat to find its way in. Please use the food I recommend and heat in microwave for 10 seconds before putting in the human trap. Must be home and MONITOR the trap. If you get a sighting you need to set and MONITOR a humane trap at the sighting location right away and at morning dusk. *NEVER LEAVE A TRAP UNATTENDED. You can use rotisserie chicken and Friskies Whitefish and Sardines canned food as bait. Cats usually stay within a one mile radius from home. Most are found very close to home as in a few houses away or next street over. They are usually found (after getting sightings and with trapping) very close to their own home. Some come home on their own, usually in the overnight hours. Concentrate on canvassing your own neighborhood, however, in case the sighting was not of your cat. Cats don’t usually go far. They usually will try to return home between 10 PM and 5 AM with peak hours being 3-5 AM. Put a worn shirt of yours on your porch or near the door and continue to replace with a fresh one daily. Do NOT put a litter box outside. It will attract male unneutered cats who will spray property and chase your cat away if trying to return home. Some cats stay hidden for 3 weeks traveling at night. More tips— Tips for Lost Cats If you haven’t yet, leave some articles of your unwashed clothing (socks, shoes, t-shirt, a pillowcase) outside for him/her to smell home. Change these out daily to keep the scent fresh. Never leave food or a litter box out, as this attracts coyotes/predators. 📍>>If you can, starting tonight please leave a door or window (even a garage door) cracked open for him/her to return through, especially during the night when it’s quiet out and when cats are most active; this works well, but may take a few nights if they are in hiding. Leave the articles of clothing near the opening. It helps to leave some food out inside the home to help lure him/her in. Don’t give up - cats typically attempt to return home during the night/early morning hours (~1a-5a).<< (keep any other pets safe in a secure room while doing this) Your cat is probably hiding nearby. Go out late at night w/ a flashlight and look for your cat’s eyes. You can try shaking a treat bag if your cat normally responds to that. Check shrubs, under cars, crawl spaces, up in trees and on roof tops (in case your cat has been chased). If you see your cat outside, he/she may be too scared to come to you - sit quietly and have some tuna, Churu paste cat treats and even a wand-type toy to help lure them over to you. Have neighbors check their garages/sheds. Leave out some water, since it’s hot out. Post signs around the neighborhood (even further out at intersections in case kitty has been chased out of the area), since some people are not on social media. *Beware of scam calls/texts/emails/messages/comments. Post on NextDoor, Ring and on local Lost & Found Pets group pages. Check and notify surrounding animal shelters and leave flyers there - also, take flyers to vet offices/ER vets, where someone may take your cat for a chip scan. If microchipped, notify the chip company that your cat is missing. Update/verify contact info if needed. If you have motion sensing cameras, check them to see if kitty has returned to the yard. IF she/he is still young, she/he may respond to sweet, gentle meowing sounds - either do this yourself or download a cat communicator type app to your phone and play sweet, gentle, friendly meowing/purring sounds to lure her/him out of hiding. Best wishes — leaving clothes/shoes outside an opening (door cracked open) during the night works very well!

Most indoor only cats and limited outdoor access cats are found within 2.5 houses of the house they escaped from. Indoor only cats will be hiding out during the day and typically come out at night when it's dark and quiet as they feel more safe. The best thing to do is to talk to your neighbors during the day to see if they have seen your cat. Do not rely on social media. The best way to find your cat is on foot by talking to people during the day and looking outside very LATE at night. See if your neighbors can leave their garages and sheds open for a few hours. Your cat may not come out right away once the doors are opened. This is because when cats are in survival mode, they typically do not act normal. You can also print mini flyers and attach them to your neighbors' doors if they are not home. You can use painter's tape so that it is easy for the homeowner to remove. Post on Nextdoor & Ring App. It alerts neighbors in a 2-3 mile radius. Please make sure that your cat has a way to get back into your house 24/7. You want to leave open a garage door (including the door that goes from the garage to the house) sliding glass door, or window that they exited from as well as some of your recently worn clothing outside of the entry way. ***Do NOT put your cat's litter box outside as it can attract predators.*** It's VERY important that you look for your cat late at night. Between 11pm to 5am are ideal times to find a missing indoor only cat. 3 AM is the best time to find a cat as this is the time they become most active and responsive. Shake a bag of their favorite treats while CALMLY talking (in a normal voice) to your cat. Make sure that you pause after calling to see if you can hear your cat meowing. Indoor only cats are very frightened outdoors and will only come out when they feel safe. You may have to trap your cat as they will be in survival mode (sometimes they start acting a bit feral) and will not act the same way that they do in the house.
