If indoor only cat..Indoor cats hide in silence and fear very close by either in your yard or neighbors check under bushes sheds and decks. Do this ASAP Put out items with your scent on it, like an item of dirty clothing, towel, blankets. Put vacuum dust outside the door. Leave out a bowl of water. (if indoor only cat Will be hiding in silence and fear either in your yard or neighbors check under bushes and sheds) DO NOT put litter box out it will attract feral cats and predators. Go out at dawn and dusk and shake treats bag. Call as may times as possible, but night time is best Because its quite. Ask neighbors if you can check garages, sheds and under decks and their security camera recordings in the mid morning hours since cats are more likely to come out when it's quiet during the night. Put up 11x17 poster in neighborhood. Use a flashlight at night because you will see a reflection of their eyes, look up trees and post on your local town community page and next-door neighborhood app.

Also, do these outdoor instructions simultaneously in case kitty did get outside: LOST CAT OUTDOORS - CATNIP & DIRTY LAUNDRY OUTSIDE ASAP! Refresh daily. - Sprinkle LOTS of catnip by entrance and stairs s/he went out, down to the sidewalk. - Be generous. DO NOT PUT FOOD OUTSIDE - COYOTES ARE ROAMING - Hang worn (not cleaned) pieces of your clothing, dirty socks, tshirt or the pjs you worn last night, around shrubs & railing, the scent will drift. Also inside for cat to snuggle up on and for your scent. YOU MUST BE CONSISTENT & DILIGENT WHEN DOING THESE THINGS! - You need to search personally as neighbors won’t search as thoroughly as you would. Bring catnip, treats and a flashlight, even in daylight when they hide in a dark corner under a porch you could miss them. Ask to go in yards, not only beside you but in back, on the next and across and on the next street. I recently found my neighbors cat in the very yard next door to his own house. Although the owner had been calling and walking around the blocks calling, he stayed hunkered down in a dense garden when I found him too afraid to come out. You need to get down and dirty and search under everything. - Call the cat OFTEN especially throughout the night, LOUD ENOUGH to be heard from a couple of neighboring yards away. It is quiet at night and most cats stay nearby, but venture out in the dark. Shake a treat bag, and then stop and LISTEN closely for a meow. Check door every 30 minutes! Especially overnight. - Use a flashlight (even in daylight) to search under schrubs, porches (bend down and look way under with the light in the dark corners) sheds, garages, bat windows, under cars, up in trees. At night, their eyes will glow with a flashlight. - Knock on doors, talk to people face to face. This goes a long way. Put flyers on telephone poles. Be sure to weatherproof them, You can get sheet protectors (these are plastic sleeves like you would fin d in a photo album, that fit a regular size piece of paper 8 1/2” x 11”) at the dollar store.

He could be hiding indoors; this is not as uncommon as one may think. Owner is away and kitty gets out of sorts and goes into hiding. Please follow these instructions: CAT HIDING INDOORS Cats can hide for days indoors. Owners tell me their cat wouldn’t be inside because they will come out to eat - One was located in a bat crawl space after 10 days! Here are some indoor places cats have been found you may not have thought of looking: In closets, take everything out, they can hide very well. If you have ducts/pipes running from floor to ceiling, notice any openings where the cat could crawl in to the floor/ceiling or even inside the duct. Under your upholstered furniture if there are any tears or openings along the seam, cats can climb in. Same on mattresses and box springs. Look inside your recliner if you have one. Found one hiding inside a mattress on someone’s porch once! Look in ALL draws; had someone find their cat hiding for 3-4 days in the dresser, no idea how it got there. In back of, underneath and INSIDE all appliances, fridge, stove, dishwasher. Someone had one hiding in their bottom draw on stove. Washer/dryer - Look in your dryer vent. Inside kitchen cabinets, any openings, holes inside. Had one found inside a cabinet but got underneath the bottom of it. If you have any openings in bat walls. Found one under plywood floor in a bat. Another under the floor in bat where the toilet was raised higher. China cabinet, inside, on top; bookshelves. Sitting on a chair tucked into the table. If you have suspended tile ceilings, had one inside a ceiling one time. If you have slot of stuff in your bat or stairs to your attic you need to actually move things and search in boxes. Etc. If cat has access to bat or attic, put tunafish and catnip out and notice if any is eaten. You can sprinkle a little bit of catnip but make a neat little circle, about the diameter of a half dollar, so you can notice if it has been touched. Cats will usually roll around on it, and it will becometered.
