Create a scent station (items with your/your dog’s smell - unwashed bedding, clothing, toys, etc.). Check it often, especially when things are quiet (late evening/early morning). This step especially important if in an unfamiliar area! If you have another dog, walk the area with it on a leash. Check nearby Ring/security cameras in the area. Post simple signs (large photo, word “lost” and your phone number) in your yard and neighborhood. (Put in a plastic sleeve/page protector first.). Check the Shelter(s) at least every other day - in person! You know your pet best. Post on the NextDoor app which covers your surrounding neighborhoods. When your pet is spotted, do not call or chase him/her! Just sit down on the ground and be very quiet. Post on Nextdoor. Post fliers and ask neighbors. Check animal control frequently and in person. Shepherds move fast if picked up. They won’t be in shelters long. Hopefully he will find his way home.
