Jesica Green Lafayette, Louisiana - Lost Dogs, Cats & Pets This person needs to be banned. This is a scam. They asked for my mom’s phone number in messenger to call her and send pics. The profile is obviously fake.

Following is info & suggestions I've learned from many years of personal experience trying to find missing kitties & sharing in hopes that it may help you to find your missing cat & get it back home & to safety. Keep in mind cats tend to have USUAL behaviors & thinking when they are in an unfamiliar location depending on if they have a home vs homeless, people friendly vs feral, greats strangers vs hiding from them, indoor only vs indoor/outdoor, recently moved to new location, their history & personality, etc. Your cats behavior may vary alittle from my experiences based on their own personality & history. 1) GENERAL - Are usually found within 1 block of their home, - An indoor-only cat that gets outside alone in an unfamiliar area will USUALLY be EXTREMELY scared of possible predators nearby & will seek the NEAREST place where they can hide. - Tends to stay hiding in that 1st hiding spot for ~7-14 days without leaving it. - WON'T make any sound or come out of hiding if they hear your voice because they don't want to give their position away in fear of there being unseen predators nearby. - DO NOT put their litter box outside by doorway! That could attract other wildlife. If cat does come home on its own & sees unfamiliar animal(s) it will run away from the area & hide. Instead put their bedding, or worn clothes w/your scent on them, outside. 2) MISSING CAT FOUND/SEEN BY STRANGER: - Will often bring it to Animal Control. Laf Parish AC maintains an online inventory updated daily for public viewing to see what animals are currently there. A cat will usually be on the inventory list for only 2-3 days, then taken off. Once its removed from current inventory list, there isn't an archived list that the public can check to see if it was there :( So need to ck it at least every other day. - Many people who find an unfamiliar friendly cat will bring them inside to keep them safe while trying to see if someone lost it. That's good for keeping cat safe, but unless they put a flyer in their yard about the found kitty, if its owner is physically searching area they won't find it & may think it isn't in the area anymore :(. - Many people assume when an unfamiliar friendly cat shows up that it was abandoned & may not think to have it checked for a microchip & will keep it, re-home it, or bring to shelter without trying to find out if it has an owner looking for it. - Post large missing cat flyer in your front yard in case seen to know who to contact. - Post your lost cat info on the most widely used local lost pet online sites immediately such as Pawboost.com, Nextdoor.com, Animal Control Lost/Found FB page, etc. - Tape your missing cat flyer on outside of every mailbox within a 2 block area asap to let neighbors know there is someone looking in the area for that missing kitty & who to contact if seen. 3) WHEN TO SEARCH - Immediately! Don't wait a day or so to see if it comes home on its own. There are dangerous predators (coyotes & large birds) in all our neighborhoods that are targeting outside cats & small dogs because they've learned they are easier prey to catch than small wild animals. - During daytime walk around shaking their treat bag. Many have been known to come running when they hear it. - Sit outside as often as possible when having friendly conversation on phone. When some cats see you acting calm & don't hear any stress or worry in your voice, it makes them feel that there isn't any danger nearby & will come out of hiding & approach owner. - When calling them, it's very important to not sound worried, scared, pleading, etc because that may make them think something is wrong or danger is nearby & will cause them to remain quietly hidden. - When it's dark & quiet outside, search the neighborhood using bright flashlight (~11-2 am & 3-5 am) & look for reflection of their eyes (which is caused when a bright light shines on them). - When it's noisy out they will tend to get as far back from the entrance of their hiding area as possible to mininize chances of being seen & attacked. Once its gotten very quiet nearby, they will tend to come closer to their hiding entrance in order to look for predators/danger. That's when best chance of seeing reflection from their eyes with your flashlight is. - Keep searching the area w/flashlight every night because before they may not have been in a location where your flashlight beam was able to reach their eyes, may have been facing opposite direction, eyes closed if sleeping, etc. & where you probably won't see where they are hiding w/o the reflection from their eyes giving away their location. 4) WHERE TO LOOK: - Local online sites re lost/found pets, pets to be rehomed/adopted, Animal Control online inventory site, Pawboost.com, Nextdoor.com, etc. - Focus initial search within 1 block of where they got out. Research shows most are found within 3-17 houses away. If not seen in that area, expand search area because if chased, they may have gone further before they found place to hide in. - When outside in unfamiliar place, indoor-only cats will try to quickly make themselves as invisible as possible to protect themselves from possible nearby predators & will hide in the NEAREST place they can find that would provide some cover & protection. So start at where they got out & look for nearest solid wall, low bushes, or something similar that they could keep next to in order to not be as visible & to try to protect at least one side of their body while searching for NEAREST place to hide. - Follow that path & search any areas that a cat could hide under (bushes, scrap piles, decks, raised platforms, inside sheds/garages, trees, etc). - If you do see reflection from an animals eyes when your flashlight hits them, approach cautiously; it might not be your cat. Approach slowly/quietly while softly saying pets name. If it isn't your cat, it will tend to dart away when you get within a cpl feet. If it is your cat, it should remain silent w/o any movement & allow you to pick it up & take it home. - They will often return home VERY late @ night once it's quiet inside/outside to look for food. So that they don't alert any nearby predators where they are, they won't meow or make any sounds. If seen by you (inside or outside), most will run away & hide (even though they may want very badly to be back inside w/you). If possible, when it's quiet inside/outside, leave small opening in doorway so that it can come inside when looking for food. Hide comfortably near back of door where you can watch TV, or use phone, while waiting. If you see it come inside, stay motionless & partially close eyes so it will think you're asleep & unaware of its presence & will continue towards usual feeding area. Once it's inside, quickly slam door shut before it can run back outside. - Set humane trap(s) near doorway, or wherever it was seen. - Cats will usually steer clear of areas where there are raccoons or unfamiliar animals nearby. Need to try to deter unfamiliar animals from going near the trap or entrances. To keep raccoons away, suggest putting food that cats don't eat (& raccoons do) such as dog food, fruit, veggies, bread, peanut butter, etc near area where raccoons come from so they'll stop & eat that instead of going to area where the trap is. 5) SAFETY: - When searching be as visible as possible, don't try to hide your presence, & don't act suious. - Be careful to not shine your flashlight into your neighbors windows. - Wear bright colored clothing & keep face visible when searching after dark. - Try to stay on sidewalk, or edge of road, & not on others property. - Ask neighbors if you can search their property for any areas where it could hide that your flashlight might not reach. Often takes between 7 days - 3 months avg before a missing cat is posted as found. Some aren't posted found for 1-2 yrs after missing! So don't quit searching too soon! Praying for the quick & safe return of your missing furbaby!

Suggestions that Work to Help Lost Pets: 1. If you have found a pet, please have the dog/cat scanned for a microchip. Any vet will scan (free of charge). Including the emergency vet (open 24 hours). Lafayette Vet Care Center. If your lost pet is microchipped, contact the microchip company right away. 2. Put a BIG sign in the area where you found the dog/cat, or in your front yard, if you've taken in or if you have lost a pet, in case someone is driving around looking for their lost pet or for the owner of a pet they found. If your lost pet is a cat, put their litter box, food, and water outside. 3. Put fliers all around the area and at vet's offices, for a pet you've lost or for a pet you've found. 4. Post on the facebook page "Lafayette, Louisiana-Lost Dogs, Cats, and Pets" and similar FB pages in your area. Be sure to check other posts on the page, to see if someone is looking for a pet you've found, or if someone has posted about a pet they found, that you lost. On some pages, this is under "Visitor's posts". 5. Get the Nextdoor app, and post on it. 6. Make your Facebook posts PUBLIC so people can share. Check the comments. Someone may have information. 7. Include your CONTACT INFORMATION in your posts (your phone number). It does not do any good without contact information. We are not all "friends" on FB and cannot contact the finder/owner. 8. Include EXACTLY where the pet was found or lost. City, street name and specific area of the city or parish. 9. GO TO the animal shelter and look for your pet or hang a flier about a lost/found pet. Don't call - the front office staff cannot help you. Go there and bring a flier with the pet's photo and your phone number. 10. The Lafayette Animal Shelter and Care Center's website is here: www(dot)lafayettela(dot)gov/lascc. Click Lost and Found and then Search the Shelter to see the animals who are there now. Is your pet there? (It's always better to go there in person, if you can, and speak with someone and see the animals there. Sometimes the photos are not great, especially of a scared cat or dog.) Thank you!
