I've read through your description, it says he's totally grey. The reason I ask, is that yesterday early evening. A little grey cat ran in my back door. Very skinny, wet. Yet very friendly. This little grey cat had a faded whitish spot on its chest. I checked garden this morning. No sign . I live in gorebridge.

They always come home, until they don't. Best to keep them inside and provide them with indoor enrichment than to expect the neighbourhood to keep your pet safe for you. I hope your next cat gets a catio or you train it to walk on a lead so you can love your friend for many years rather than a few short months.
