you might try setting a live trap for him with catnip or canned food. He might have just freaked out by you packing etc. Also, check anywhere he might have been accidentally trapped. Anyplace that was open to him…attics, sheds, car trunks, etc. Sometimes putting out clothing with your scent on it will attract them.

Try searching at dusk with a flashlight .....calling softly....around your home, shrubs, sheds..........& nearby neighbors areas, too
