I’m so sorry. Please go out and sit quietly and call and wait. And then do it again. They are usually close to home and huddled up scared. We’ve found our cats doing precisely that. One was stuck in my neighbors BBQ and one was up our tree in the front yard. Hoping she finds her way home.

Post on Ring Neighbors, PetFinder, Nextdoor too. Please put his/her bed on your porch so they can smell it. Also place your dirty worn clothes outside up off the ground where the breeze will carry your scent. It may lure them back. No food or water outside because it attracts everyone else. Open a door or window where they escaped from and crack your garage door so he/she can get back in. **If it’s an indoor kitty it is really important he/she has a safe way back in so leave a door open (all day and night) as they typically try to return when it’s late hours and quiet.** Go out late when it’s quiet & walk the neighborhood, searching high & low. Kitty is probably hiding nearby & hunkered down. Check under all of the bushes with a flashlight looking for kitty’s eyes to reflect, shake noisy food, call to kitty softly, then be quiet & listen for meows. Look up in trees as kitty could’ve been chased up one. Cats don't usually go too far. Usually within 8-10 houses from home. Use your home as the center point & search in every direction. Talk to all the neighbors. Show them a picture & ask them to check their yards, cameras, garages & report all sightings asap. He/she might be camped out in their yard, and they don't know kitty is yours. Put up signs-IMPORTANT. Put flyers up for a few blocks in every direction in case cat is seen. Put them at major intersections & inside neighborhoods, businesses, shopping centers. Use plastic page protectors & tape them in visible locations at corners. Put up cameras outside to alert you if kitty is in the yard. If you have a sighting you can set a humane trap baited with some favorite canned food, fried chicken, or a hamburger patty. Set trap in a quiet location & wait nearby to watch. Never leave a trap unattended because you could catch other critters & need to release them. If kitty is microchipped, alert the microchip company that kitty is lost! Check with vets where they went missing. Call the shelter and let them know your cat is missing so they can log it in their book. Check shelters in person weekly. 🚨 LOST INDOOR CAT – URGENT TIPS TO HELP BRING THEM HOME SAFELY 🚨 If your cat has gone missing and is usually indoors, here are critical steps to take: 🏠 Create a Safe Way for Your Cat to Return • Leave a door or window open (ideally the one they escaped from), even overnight - cats often return in the quiet late-night or early-morning hours. • Crack your garage door slightly to allow safe entry. • Place your worn, unwashed clothes up off the ground outside - your scent can help guide them home. • Do NOT place food, water, or litter boxes outside - these can attract other animals and deter your cat from returning. 🐾 Help Them Feel Safe • If you have other pets, keep them secured in a separate room to avoid scaring the missing cat away if they return. 🧭 Search Nearby and Alert Others • Cats typically don’t go far - they may be hiding under decks, in bushes, sheds, garages, or yards close to home. • Talk to your neighbors and ask them to check around their property. • Request that neighbors check doorbell or security cameras (like Ring) for sightings. 📣 Spread the Word – Not Everyone Uses Social Media • Put up physical signs ASAP - include a clear photo and contact info. • Post online in multiple places: • Facebook (your page and local lost pet groups) • Nextdoor • PawBoost Lost & Found • Ring Neighbors app ⚠️ Beware of Scams • If someone contacts you saying they have your cat and asks for money or asks you to verify a code, do NOT respond - this is a scam.
