MESSAGE FROM OWNER

Our sweet rescue girl Yuumi escaped from the car near Giardino’s in East Ridge. She could be anywhere within a 2 mile radius of the tunnels near Giardino’s. She was only about 4 minutes away from and we’re heartbroken that she got out. Please help us find our sweet girl, she’s been with us for two years since we rescued her from McKamey. She’s terrified when she’s outdoors. She has a light pink collar with a bell and her name and our phone number on it!

DESCRIPTION

Tuxedo cat, about 6 years old, bright green eyes, white belly and paws with smooth black fur. She has a little cut at the top of one of her ears & is missing some whiskers above her right eye. She’s friendly but skittish around new people and very scared when outside, so she’s likely hiding out.

All the below is true. It worked for me and others many times. Most cats are scared when they get out. They find first safe spot and this is where they stay, this is usually within a half block from your home in any direction. Best time to look is after midnite and up to 3 am when the scarey daytime noises stop. Sit outside your house, near the place kitty escaped from. Stay put for at least an hour, talking in a normal tone so kitty can hear you. Have familiar smells with you, like litter box or favorite food or treats. If weather is mild, consider sleeping on your porch. Do this every night, same time...between midnight and 3 am. You could also try walking around the neighborhood. Take a flashlight and shine it to watch for the glow of cat eyes. Take a can of food or treats to shake. .something your cat loves. Softly call kitty name. You may have to go several nights in row, at same time. Kitty will be cautious, must know it is you before she shows herself. Listen closely for soft meows...she wants to be found. Don't give up, cats are resilient and smart. I would be so bold as to say 95% of lost cats are within a hundred feet of house but are not found because owner gives up. Cats can be missing for weeks and months, being steps from your house. Many good stories of cats coming home, even after much time passes. Hang flyers in neighborhood. ..people need to know he/she is missing, so they don't assume he/she is a stray if they see them. I found my cat after putting flyers on houses for blocks in my neighborhood. People have seen her, someone may be feeding her...you have to get word out IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD! Have neighbors check garages and sheds. She could be trapped in one of those locations. Contact shelters and stay in touch with them. Most importantly, have faith and be consistently persistent in active regular searches AT NIGHT. Good luck with getting him/her back. It will happen. Believe!!!! And pray

I'm so sorry about your baby.🥺💔 Most cats stay close to where they were lost and hunker down so it is critical to be as proactive as possible. Check everywhere even in drain pipes and drains. Use a flashlight at night because it will reflect your cat's eyes. Work with a cat rescue to immediately set a cat trap where she escaped or was last seen or you can order one or more on Amazon and set them yourself. Someone will need to check the trap(s) every morning. Let the surrounding businesses know that you will be setting cat traps and why. Set up a food and water station under some shrubs where she was lost and sit about 4 feet away from it at dusk and at night to see if she approaches. She may not recognize you at first because she will be scared and in a strange environment so gently call her name and be patient. Once you set the trap you can pick up the food but leave the water. Print some flyers for neighbors and businesses in the area. Put some in public areas and offer some type of reward, if you can. A reward will incite people to intentionally be on the lookout for your cat or to return it to you. Please read this article: https://www.missinganimalresponse.com/lost-cat-behavior/
