From experience, they really don't go far, stay in close proximity to house, but great hiders. Good luck

The vet told my daughter to go sit out on the porch in the morning/night and call it. Take its favorite food out with you. It worked for her and I want to say it was out there at least a month. Walking the neighborhood I read just confuses the cats smelling for you. Your smell is all over.

Check garages. They get locked in escaping the cold. Fortunately they can survive a long time without kitty food

Put posters up around the neighborhood. Get some three ring, binder sheet protectors and have a big picture that’s easy to recognize and just the words LOST! PLEASE CALL: ###~###~####• Make sure it’s easy to see from a car wherever you post it on a stop sign or electrical pole. My neighbor’s cat was gone for over a week and I told them to put the litter box outside, and it worked! The cat was meowing at the front door next to the litter box! Don’t give up!

Carol Kelly thank you for the suggestions, since it’s stopped raining i’ve resumed placing litter, cat nip, my clothes, and food outside and hopefully the wind will help the scent reach wherever he is.
