Cats rarely stray far from home. Place their litter box and a piece of your unwashed clothing outside a door under a protected area; some cats will return to the scents. Sit in a chair outside (standing intimidates scared cats) at the same time in the early evening, have their carrier near by, take their favorite food in a bowl, sprinkle some dried catnip near the bowl and call their name, talking to them just like you do at home. Be sure to take the bowl indoors to deter raccoons. Do this for about an hour each night until their trust is earned as they will be scared yet hungry. It may take several days yet this usually works. Contact your neighbors so they can let you know if they see your cat. Think like your cat who will be frightened, disoriented, hungry and missing its family.
