MESSAGE FROM OWNER

She was lost with 4 of her kittens and her mate, Namu. The Rancho Cucamonga Shelter’s TNR program released them to the streets rather than back to me their caretaker. I am sick with worry and absolutely devastated by this shocking outcome. I am very worried for the health of her and her kittens.

DESCRIPTION

She is a black and white tuxedo cat. She was last seen with 4 of her kittens who are also black and white. One kitten is all black. Her mate, Namu, is also all black. Unfortunately the Rancho Cucamonga Shelter’s TNR program released them to the streets rather than back to me, their caretaker.

Valerie Card I left food out but it was left uneaten for the following days. So I don’t think they are there anymore. I hope the shelter at least told me the truth and they were truly dropped off there. I understand there are different departments at the shelter and this was gross negligence by field services. It is unacceptable. Unfortunately, Veronica Fincher, the director of the shelter told me this is how they handle all of their tnr cases. That was so saddening to hear. It would be such a small change with such huge impact to just drop the cats off in familiar territory. What would it have cost the field officer to drive the half mile to my house? A few minutes? Thank you for volunteering at the shelter and helping kittens in need. If you can advocate for better return procedures that would help so many cats and kittens that go through the tnr program. As it stands the tnr program is putting recently operated cats at great risk.

Benjamin Lopez Barba, just wondering, since you know where they are, or at least where they were left, you don’t think it would be helpful to leave food out? (I’m not familiar with the area so I don’t know just where you might leave food out.) I’m a volunteer at the shelter, with the cats, and know Elsa Tristan, head of kitten services, and have participated in adoption events. I always found her to be a caring person. I don’t understand why the cat family wasn’t returned to where they came from. It doesn’t make sense. Are field service officers so lackadaisical? Poor cat family. Maybe someone in the neighborhood where they were left will see this post and contact you. Or, as you wrote, maybe a good-hearted person will see them and take up their care. A TNR cat will have a clipped ear so someone may, hopefully, know they’ve been altered.

Valerie Card The problem is the shelter doesn’t care enough about the cats’ welfare and are negligent about where they drop them off. The shelter takes a good deed and perverts it into a high risk situation for the cats. I think given how scared they are, how recently they were trapped, and the uncertainty of exactly where they are without any sightings, the only hope is for them to fend for themselves, find a caring person, or hopefully find their way back. I believe in their resiliency, pray they are safe, and hope they find their way back or a new caretaker.

Benjamin Lopez Barba … so I can see why you are worried about them. May I ask, how did you find out where they were released? And I’m wondering, too, why they weren’t released back to where they came from. The R in TNR some people think means Release but it doesn’t. It means Return… return to where the cats came from. I hope this feline family is found soon. I’m not sure how I can help. I don’t live nearby. But I do have a live trap.

Linda Madeira if she and her kittens ever return it will be like reuniting with a lost family member and I will definitely shower them with care, food, and shelter.
