Message from Finder

All black, beautiful cat, very friendly. Likes to lay on the pillow like a person. Well taken care of. We found the cat by the sewer entrance and it had been seen crossing the road. I'd rather not send the cat back outside, it might get hurt. Someone is missing this cat and we would love to reunite this cat and it's owner. Please share.

We were hopeful that this cat was our missing cat who disappeared around 10 Aug. unfortunately it was not. Thank you for the help of the rescuers in verifying that it wasn’t him. Wonderful family!

Thank you for posting and trying to help! Please report the found pet/pet sighting here and with other surrounding shelters and rescues and vets. If you can safely and securely (in a carrier, on a leash, etc.) bring the pet in to a vet/shelter, they can scan for a chip: Fairfax County - https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalservices/lostandfoundpets/filereport Loudoun County - https://www.loudoun.gov/545/Lost-Found-Pets Prince William County - https://www.pwcva.gov/department/animal-services/report-lost-and-found-pets/ Please also post flyers and hand out flyers around your area; not everyone is on social media. Fairfax County, VA has a Found cat program that they use to help determine if the cat has an owner before they take him in for adoption or TNR. Send them an email with photos at animalservices@fairfaxcounty.gov and they’ll help you with an “Am I lost?” blast and give you some flyers if you’re inclined to post them. If no one claims him after a week, the shelter staff can approve him being trapped and brought into the shelter. Also, if you can look on Pawboost.com, you might see if someone is missing them. You can also create FOUND postings on the same site. They give you a proxy email address to use-don’t include your phone number to avoid spammers.

Whether or not you agree with it, cats are allowed to be outdoors in our area. So it's likely not a stray and it may not even be lost. It may just be an indoor / outdoor cat.
