Also please look under shrubs near the house and around door. Mine did that and I found her petrified under a brush. I was out of my mind!

Also put the litter box outside or in an open garage! Sometimes cats return when they pick up the scent!

Barbara- Thank you so much for taking the time to send me such helpful suggestions! Because he is deaf, I know he has to be scared to death being outside for the very first time!! Thank you again!!

Leave open a garage door, sliding patio door, window, etc. Cats will often hide during the day and move under the cover of darkness and sneak back into the house. Several cats have returned to their owners this way recently. It is effective. Also, keep walking your neighborhood, they usually don’t go very far but can be scared and hiding. Check under decks, bushes, or just sit quietly for hours to see if you see or hear your cat. See if any neighbors have Ring/doorbell cameras or other cameras and ask them to check their footage to see if they see your cat. Also think about setting a humane trap. A lot of shelters or animal rescue groups have them to loan. Cover the trap with a blanket or something so it doesn’t look like a trap. Bait the trap with a food your cat loves. You have to constantly check the trap though. You might catch a wild animal and that is super stressful for the animal (just release it asap), plus, depending on the weather, extreme cold or heat, it can be dangerous. But if you can check a trap every hour or put a camera on it, it is a good way to catch your cat. You may have to camouflage the trap a bit with a blanket or tree branches. Traps can look scary.

Beautiful baby. Leave window or garage cracked. Put out his litter box and your clothes. I hope he comes home soon. Shared Chesapeake, VA

Thank you very much for your message. Yes, I have contacted Chesapeake Animal Control. Finnegan is deaf so calling his name just doesnt work. I have been outside several times night & day with his treats. I have also walked all over my neighborhood looking under bushes, cars & boats. I habe also walked up and down Great Bridge Blvd several times. Again, thank you SO much for all of your suggestions. Finnegan is a love bug, but can also get a bit fiesty when scared.

Have you made a lost cat report with Chesapeake animal control. If the cat is chipped, make sure that the registry has your current contact information. Print flyers with your cat picture and your contact information and take around to your neighbors. Ask them to call you if they see your cat also ask them if they’ve been in their shed, outbuilding or garage since your cat went missing. cats get into those structures and when the owner shuts the door, they can’t get out. You cannot hear a cat crying from inside a structure to get out unless you’re standing right next to it. Tonight after 10 PM go out of new yard with a bag of kitty treats and a flashlight, shake the kitty treats bag, and call your cat’s name quietly and walk around your yard. Look in the bushes to see if you see your cat. Look under decks, porches, and any structure with an open crawlspace.
