Message from Owner

ESA got lost outside earlier and I haven’t seen him since. Worried sick about him as he’s indoor only.

Indoor only cats that get out typically stay within a few house radius. Cats prefer familiarity so he's almost surely hiding nearby and will only come out (often not even for their owner's familiar call) when it's dark and quiet. If possible, leave the door he got out from (or a garage if that's the only possibility) ajar as he surely wants back in to where he feels safe and is just waiting until he feels secure enough to come out of hiding. In the evenings after dark, spiral out from that exit around your home looking in nearby bushes with a flashlight. That's most likely where he's hiding and the light will make his eyes glow. You could shake treats he likes too (they recognize the sound of the bag) and that may help draw him out. Calling to him may just signal danger since cats are sensitive and can detect stress in their owner's voices. I'd also recommend a humane trap, especially if you can't leave the door ajar. Bait it with something yummy smelling like Publix fried chicken after dark near where he would've gotten out. The fact he's indoor only actually works in your favor because he'll stay hiden nearby. Whatever you please don't put his litter outside. People have had luck with that but it's no longer recommended as it is more likely to attract predators. Paws crossed your kitty is found soon.

Laura Murray please don't be so insensitive - it says he's indoor only right in the caption so he obviously got out accidentally. Reminding to keep an indoor cat that accidentally got out inside is cruel.
