Ava Bauserman it's very difficult for people to tell when they see cat if its lost or dumbed or an indoor out door cat. We have quite a lot of cats around our neighborhood and even for me ,its hard to tell, and I had cats for 50 years. I reached out to somebody that traps cats and finds them new homes, she told me if they run way the would be feral ,but I don't agree. Some indoor housecats are as skittish as feral cats ,when they are all of a sudden outside. And not every indoor outdoor cat likes to be approached as well. It depends all on the caracter of the cat and his or he experience. After all the are individual as humans. With that said, it could be that some well meaning people trap cats that have a home, because they think it's a stray . Does your cat have a microchip and is the microchip registered? Any shelter would look for that. I had one of my indoor cats missing for over a month. I made flyes, went around the neighborhood and asked everybody that I cold talk to. I went t the shelters regular in person, you can not relay on them over the phone. Ask if the have any cats in Quarantine. Go to any veterinarian offices near you and as if you could put up your flyer. They usually let you. Ask buissness around you if you could put up flyers. I went out every day. Finaly a neighbor 3 streets away told me he saw my cat at an abandoned house. I rented a cat trap fro the spca put wet food in ,and the next morning m cat was in it. As light as a feather, I have never felt a grown cat so lightweight, but healthy otherwise. There is also another group on the internet i think its lost pets of colorado, make shure that you put up your post on any group that is from Colorado and for lost pets. Ask around in your neighborhood if they or you can check garages, greenhouses, under the house if it has a crawlspace and decks or anywere a cat cold hide. If your kitty in an Olympic indoor cat it will hide near by. If it's an indoor outdoor cat, then it depends if you had the cat fixed, since intact males can travel further, in order to mate. It might be as you think, especially since its winter,that some people think a cat is lost or dumbed when they see a cat outside.
