Use a flashlight to check closets, behind appliances, under furniture, and in tight spaces. - Most indoor-only cats stay very close by—often hiding silently within just 1–2 houses. Even outdoor-savvy cats may not go far when lost. - Avoid calling loudly or chasing—lost cats tend to freeze or hide when scared. Use soft, familiar phrases or gentle talking instead. - Set up a scent station at home or the last known location using your unwashed clothing, their bedding, or items that smell like home. - If safe, leave a door or window cracked open while you're home and watching—many cats return silently when things are quiet and calm. - Avoid leaving food or litter outside unless you're actively monitoring. These can attract other animals that might deter your cat. - Consider setting a humane trap—especially if you're seeing your cat or have a suspected hiding spot.
