They usually don’t venture far. It’s probably scared & hiding near by in bushes or an open garage. Most kitties will stay put in their safe hiding spot. ( if they’re not fixed they can wonder further, depends on circumstances) Ask neighbors to check their sheds, decks, garages. They usually venture out at night after 24-48hrs when they start getting hungry. The “witching” hour when they come out is 3am. If you see your pet, don’t try to grab it, it’s still on survival mode and will run. Just sit down maybe with some treats and let your pet come to you. (Remember, never put the litterbox outside. Other cats will mark it & scare your cat away. Just in case, also set some humane traps near by, hide them in the bushes where your pet might hide. Good luck & don’t lose hope. Pray to St Anthony, he hasn’t let me down. 🙏🏻🐾

***You need to put out a humane trap. That’s the best chance you have of getting your cat back.*** Read below. Hi. I’m so sorry you lost your cat. I do cat rescue and have helped people get lost cats back. I have trapped and rescued a lot of cats. Cats are often very scared when they get outside, especially when they’re indoor cats. They will hide. They don’t come when called even if they’re nearby. You must use a trap! The best way to get your cat back is to put out a humane trap (HAVAHART or TruCatch trap) baited with food! You must monitor it. Line the bottom of the trap with newspaper but makes sure that doesn’t interfere with it closing. Make a trail of very snall pieces of canned salmon or wet cat food that smells strong, from the front of the trap to the back of the trap, where you will put a larger amount of it. Put the trap in a quiet place and stay far away enough so you won’t spook the cat but close enough so you can preferably see it and definitely hear it close. Your cat is likely hiding nearby and afraid to come out. Once it’s dark and quiet the cat will come out of hiding and will be hungry. That’s when it will go in the trap. As soon as the cat is trapped, it will probably freak out a little but. Cover the trap quickly with a blanket, sheet, or towel. Have that ready on top of the trap so it’s there and you can cover it quickly. Never leave the trap out unmonitored or overnight or any time! You don’t want to catch a raccoon, possum, or your cat and leave it in the trap outside for hours. If you trap an animal, point the trap towards a safe place so it will run out into the woods or backyard, stand at the back of the trap, and open it from behind. Wait for the animal to run out. Don’t put your hands anywhere near a wild animal or try to touch it! After the cat is trapped, bring the trap inside a room and close the door. Once the trap is inside a room and the door is closed, open the trap and let the cat out. Provide litter, food, and water. The cat may be scared so will probably hide for a while. Let it come out on its own. Examine the cat to make sure it has no injuries. Give the cat flea . Revolution is a good one. Leave the cat inside the room for two days so the flea work. You don’t want fleas in the rest of your house. **Also, put up flyers in your neighborhood with the cat’s picture and information. Ask and look around to see if maybe your cat went into someone’s garage or shed and is trapped in there.** **Call local shelters too, in case someone contacted animal control and they came and got the cat or someone brought the cat there. Go to the shelter and look in person just in case whoever you speak to gets it wrong when checking for your cat. In NJ they only have to hold stray cats for 7 days before euthanizing. In PA there’s no hold period so cats can be adopted or euthanized immediately.** **If your cat is not spayed or neutered, please do that. He/she will want to roam less, won’t want to go outside to mate, and be overall healthier. Also, please consider keeping all cats inside. The outdoors are dangerous for cats! If your cat continues to go out, a GPS collar and microchip would be helpful so you can at least track the cat, and if found and checked for a chip, your contact information will come up.** I hope you find your cat. If you have any questions you can reply and I’ll respond. Good luck! Melissa
