Your dog is in clayton county animal control. Animal ID # A027883. She has been there for several days. You were emailed through paw boost 2 days ago. Here's a screen shot. Your pet is most likely up for adoption now. Also, there was another post a week ago, which might not have been your dog but the collar matched an urgent VEG ER post asking for the owner to get to their ER immediately. At any rate, the Clayton county Animal Control pic was posted after the urgent VET, so I imagine if Maple had to see an emergency vet, she is now fine. The picture & collar match at Clayton County. GO GET YOUR DOG! If you can't afford it, then ask CHAT GPT for advice. Go to the shelter & ask for the shelter coordinator. Ask if there are any waivers & also research rescues that may be able to help financially. Lastly, ask the shelter to freeze their daily fees. But this is your dog. Please go get her so others aren't euthanized due to yours being held there.

🙏🏼 Please ask that people DO NOT try to chase, follow, or call out to your dog if spotted. Whenever possible, it’s best if people report sightings and direction of travel to owner immediately, and don’t post specific sighting locations publicly. Dogs that are scared/lost often won’t recognize their owners when in that mindset and may not act at all like they do at home- even a super friendly and social dog might be in fear/survival mode and run away from even the people they know. Avoid calling out or whistling to the dog – they will likely run away if they are in fear mode and it makes it even harder to safely contain them. It’s important for a lost dog to remain in the same area so it can be safely brought home, and unfortunately many well meaning people scare these dogs away and owners must start the search over. Even stopping a car nearby or closing a car door can be enough to accidentally scare the dog off. As soon as possible, the owners/guardians should place some items like unwashed laundry that smell strongly of their owners (clothes, socks, sheets) in the area last seen. Dogs in particular who get lost from an unfamiliar location almost always circle back to the place they got lost from, often at dusk or dawn when it’s quiet. Check the clothing/laundry spots at dusk and dawn, sometimes dogs are found laying on these items. Place the items in a place away from the road so the dog doesn’t move toward traffic. Keep in mind, the dogs won’t be using their noses when they are scared, and may not smell treats or recognize the scent or voice of their owners right away. For those who the dog knows - if you are close, don’t move toward the dog. It’s best to sit or lay down and pretend to eat something delicious (smack lips, “mmmm yum yum”), loud crinkly chip or food bags help. Avoid eye contact, stay facing sideways, and avoid making movements toward them (if needed walk in general direction in an arch). If they move toward you, ignore them and then drop some food/treats! If you reach for them too soon, they may run off again. Be cautious offering a large reward for a scared dog on the run – it can hurt the dog’s chances of being safely recovered (people are more likely to call out and chase/follow the dog for a reward, which can cause the dog to run farther away or continue hiding). Eye-catching, clear flyers with the dog’s photo, your phone number in big font, and phrases like “scared- do not whistle at or chase” and “contact owner with sightings immediately” can help prevent even well-meaning people from scaring the dog more (and accidentally setting the dog running blindly into the road/traffic).

Lost tips Apologies for any duplications of good tips that you may have already received. Hoping something on this list can help you. Praying a kind neighbor has your pet and will be back with you quickly. *!*!*! First-Quickly- *****Post a large lost dog/cat sign (and photo if handy/don’t wait if you don’t have one-at least get the sign up) in your own yard (OR WHERE LOST FROM). Some people have written on a large cardboard box and put that in their front yard. And if found outside of a neighborhood, please often assume dumped. Finders often drive/walk with the pet, looking for the pet’s owners/home. And this way, more people associate you with your pet. Especially when it’s usually inside or not from that area. Call your local animal services and report as missing. Join all local Facebook groups for your area. A finder may be posting on one that you aren’t on. If you have your cell listed, and/have offered a reward anywhere, be very careful of people not true/just for the reward-DO NOT GIVE ANYONE figures that they ask for (sent to your phone) when they say they want to verify it’s you. This is how they reset your information (the old reset your security info). *****A new one I just heard about-evil called impersonating a local animal hospital saying the pup was hit by a car and needed surgery-needed money. ****If there’s a chip, make sure your info is up to date and notify the chip company that he/she is missing. Put some of your (worn) clothes near your door-I’ve recently been told that this only works when the pet is within a few houses (distance-wise) and is more calm than frightened. Ask neighbors about cameras. Please be aware NOT IMMEDIATELY TRUST messages with someone claiming to have your pet. And be cautious of people who will comment here and suggest you contact a group that just helped them get their (often times “Luna”) home. Especially when posted by anonymous members. If someone says they sent you a link for something (that you’d have to click on!) in a message, I, personally would not trust it. They can post a screenshot or other helpful info right on your page. *****NOTE!-Be aware of suggested sites like that are only trying to take advantage of people who are anxious to get their pet safely home. IF NOT LEGIT, THEY WILL ASK FOR CODES. THEY WILL ASK FOR MONEY. Some sky services are legit. Some not. Be cautious. ALSO- they will SAY they have your pup but will not give any proof-they want money first. Suggestions: When posting, mention cross streets, city and state as well if posting to a national database, and date/time of when missing. Nextdoor (.com) is a very helpful neighborhood site. Ring (Neighbor) app-post there. Check Craigs (list) constantly in all surrounding areas. Check lost and found and classified sections. EVEN IF NOT CHIPPED-Contact emergency vets in case someone brought him/her in. (Sometimes it’s done because it’s an after-hours place to check for a chip). Not everyone will have the found dog checked for a chip, unfortunately. Air tags sometimes get removed and tossed. Call your local animal services to report him/her as missing. Knocking door to door. Many times the pet is with a neighbor who is trying to find its home. (Listen for their bark too!) Going to the local shelters. Often times calling hasn’t worked-the pup is there but the shelter is so busy, they don’t realize-go and look. ***Also***many (because of space) have a limited number of days that they hold before adopting out. (or worse) And then it’s over. You cannot get your pup back. No personal adopter/new owner info is given to you. Horrible when this happens. If lost during an outing, in the future, it is best to use a comfortable harness, with collar and tag, and leash that you can comfortably keep a good grip on/or secure to you. An unrestrained dog can so easily get startled and take off-it happens very often. And, at a minimum, attach their leash to a seatbelt (preferably an unused one) in the event of an accident, they cannot dart out. It happens so very often. Send/leave fliers at area vets and pet supply stores that can check for chips. Hang on your mailbox if possible. Give one to your mail carrier. Questions asking if found yet-most are genuine, some just ask to be able to engage with you, to gain a level of trust. Just be aware. Comments saying to message them for tips-they can easily post them here like the rest of us do/don’t trust that. Hoping your baby is safely back home with you quickly. Also—-Please post an update (at the top of your original post (vs, or in addition to in the comments) when you have good news to share. 😊😊Keeps us from sharing inaccurate information.
