Amy Martin Dodson I get that it's hard transition for both cat and human.. I really do.. we've taken in multiple strays.. but the thought of raising have something inly to have them disappear and never come back..well.. its too much for me....that happened to my daughter AND a friend. ...and sadness and guilt eats them alive. that's why now when we take in cats it ĺhas to stay inside .. the last one we took in luckily was only a few months old...we got it used to us outside..got it checked at a vet to make sure it was safe around our other cat and got it fixed....and once it was in it couldn't go back outside BUT..we do have a screened in back porch.. which not everyone has.. and clearly that helps.. because we just let him on the porch and he can watch the birds from the window..and he chills on the porch. we also had somebody give us a pet playpen that has la screen securing them inside and that helps as well.. which I think I'm about to post a new one for sale on here because ...well..doctor bills and being constantly sick ...ugh .. I'm sorry if I sounded rude in my post.. it's just it makes me so sad when people's cats run away snd get killed by animals..humans..cars..etc.. and then they just don't come back ..you dont get to day goodbye and keep their remains.... I just watched a video of somebody's dogs attacking a cat outside and it was heartwrenching..... I could not take it.. I don't even know why I watched it.. but that's what I'm talking about ...my goal is to not let that happen to something I love.. but I get it I get it...I do.. we feed a stray cat right now outside.. when the has been coming around for about a year but just warmed up to us over the winter because we put a heated house on our screened in back porch and propped the door open.. he had a heated water bowl and everything ...was being fed twice a day. so he had the set up out there...lol. he was nice and toasty during that big winter storm.. but the minute I tried to shut the door he lost his mind and didn't want to be on the porch... I just didn't want him going out during that storm because we were getting so much snow I thought he's going to die.. so I shut the door.. he lasted one night with that door shut and was out there yowling and everything.. so we had to prop the door open and he comes and goes still to this day and he sleeps in his little Hut and then he leaves LOL. so again, I do get what you're saying.. sorry for the book by the way

Kat Black Blood unfortunetly some cats will not adapt to just being inside. I have one tried and tried to get him to be in side. Only about 3 to 4 hours is his limit. Screams and gets very upset if he is not let out even in winter or puring rain. Scratches the doors and windows. He is a rescue. I am not giving up.

Put out the litter box he uses. It has always brought mine back. The vet suggested it.

You might try a live trap, they are fairly cheap on amazon, my Jane wanted to come back but was too overwhelmed and scared, she had made a home under a backyard shed across the street and wouldnt let anyone near her. I saw she kept coming around the doors at night and if i didnt have other pets, i would have left the door cracked and that may have solved it. Eventually she was found eating hamburger in the trap on my front porch and all was right again. It took about 3 weeks for her to show up and i did have to release squirrels and possums along the way which were easy. Tuna in oil also makes a lot of scent. Make sure there's water too. If its cold out, wrap the trap in a blanket and make sure to check it often, check it often no matter what the weather is. In fact, best to keep a camera on it. I believe in Jane's case, the live trap was her only chance. Best of luck and a swift resolve for you I hope

Please tell me you dont have an indoor/outdoor cat.. pets are pets and they belong inside.. so hopefully it just escaped and now it's scared and hiding and it comes back home ...but do not have an indoor/outdoor cat because that's not a pet. That's a community animal. A pet doesn't belong outside where dangerous situations exist.. mean people exist.. weather conditions exist...other bigger..more dangerous animals exist..cars exist..animals belong inside if they're pets and it drives me crazy when I see people post on here that they're indoor outdoor cat is missing that's not a pet.. I took in a stray cat a year ago and it's not allowed back outside no matter how much it wants out there because you're a pet now.. you're staying inside.. the end.. he's not allowed out and if he gets out it's because he escaped.. I just wish people would not do this so I hope that that's not the case here for this beautiful cat
