You live in wedge wood ,not the country ,our Vet told us to put out the litter box ,because they can smell their own sent ,and we got him home !

Put the litter box outside they can smell it as far as several miles and a piece of your clothing with your sent on it and they stay close to the house because they are scared to be out side and hiding in the shrubs and trees near thier house because they are scared to be out side and look for him in the evening softly calling thier name with a flash light and Don't give up!
