My personal experience has been first securing other cats in another closed-off room, dimming/turning off most or all inside/outside lights and — if safe to do so and should be supervised — leaving doors (especially door/window escaped through) open/ajar in the very early morning (basically, need to camp out in room where door is ajar). (Cats have a keen wide-ranging/radius sense of smell; therefore, it is so important to get their familiar “home” scents into the airwaves.) Every time, my little escape artist has come bolting through the door between 3:00 — 5:00 AM. (NOTE: When he’s escaped and door is closed, he panics and takes off again — it is important they have a way in once they come out of hiding and make a mad dash for home.) Hopefully, if not used to being outdoors, ENGINE is very close by just scared to come out until it’s really dark and really quiet. Prayers for a quick safe return !!🙏🏻

Shared. Post Engine on Nextdoor as well and check for updates on both websites. Check the shelters frequently both in person and online. File a missing report while you're there. Contact local rescue groups just in case. Not everyone checks social media, post flyers in the area. Include veterinary offices and pet stores when you post the flyers. Ask your neighbors to check their garages, back yards, storage sheds, under porches and parked vehicles, bushes and trees, etc. Be there when they check - with a carrier and a bag of his favorite treats. An open can of food and a spoon also works well. Shake the bag or tap the can while calling out to him. Keep your voice calm. Any stress in your voice will alert him to stay hidden. Search around the neighborhood when it's quieter, the time as it's getting dark is a good time to start searching. Take a flashlight, the carrier, and the bag of treats (or the can and spoon). Search out of the way spots, bushes and trees along the way, and under parked vehicles. Keep in mind that cats can squeeze into very tight spaces! Especially when they scared and under stress to keep themselves safe. So if in doubt, check it out. Check areas where Engine might be looking for food, water, and shelter (like the dumpster area of a restaurant, for example). Good luck 💖
