Message from Owner

Hector / Cuddles used to come by my parent’s hse every single day. They treated him for an eye infection and got him neutered. About two weeks later, he went missing and has never returned. We hope someone has taken him in and understand if someone is keeping him, but just want to know if he is okay.

Thanks for your concern! As stated in the post, he is a community cat meaning he was trap, neutered, and released by the humane society. He is not owned by anyone and thus lives outside. He was in the process of being befriended to potentially move inside for his safety when he went missing.

General Information: Indoor cats are usually close to home. Check any and all hiding places in your home - closets, under side of mattress. Hang clothes with your scent on it (Worn clothing from owner) high up outside so the familiar scent can travel and guide the cat back home. Ask your neighbors to check their yard/could be accidently stuck in their garage or shed. (If applicable) Check doorbell or home camera - or ask neighbors to check their camera. Post Fliers with a picture of the cat and your contact information in the area the cat went missing. Not everyone is on Social Media and posters have worked in that if spotted a location can be provided. If a cat is scared they make themselves safe by finding a good hiding spot and often times hide in silence. Look in bushes - bring a flashlight and look for shining eyes. Best time to find your cat is in the early morning hours when the noise level is low and they feel safe. Leave an access point open for the cat to return. This is important if they do come back in the middle of the night. Prayers your cat returns/ or is found safely. Beware of scammers.

Why is Hector outside without a leash and unattended? That’s exactly how cats get into trouble. Searching for him is the fastest way to get him back: 🐾 Sad seeing so many kitties go missing just this week. Poor baby, he must be so scared and hungry out on his own. When a cat goes missing, they can’t easily find their way home using only their scent. You must be proactive and look for them. 🔦 Look under cars, bushes & hedges, look for glowing eyes w/flashlight, call his name at dusk when it’s quiet and they come out from hiding to eat. Posting is important, but please search for him, too. They don’t go far, 3-4 houses away, they stay in one place until they are scared off by dogs, coyotes, or loud noises. The challenge is finding him before he gets further away. 📣Please hang flyers near the area he went missing, it’ll let your neighbors know you’re looking for him and get the immediate attention from pedestrians and drivers. You’re the one that can bring him home safely, he’ll recognize your voice, footsteps and your scent. Post on ND, check SDHS Lost & Found daily. If you’re able to find him, PLEASE, please don’t let him out unattended. Cats have the intelligence of a 3yo, they don’t know the dangers, they face outdoors with coyotes, dogs, cars, and worst of all evil people who taunt or injure cats. It only takes an hour to train a cat on a leash, then he can be outdoors safely with you. 🐈‍⬛ Good luck finding this gorgeous little guy 🐾💙🐾
